Geologic time scale always makes me feel young

Summertime with kids means a desperate search for things to do to keep them occupied without burning up in the heat. So we have been in lakes, rivers, and even occasional thoroughly air-conditioned museums trying to make it through the afternoons.

I was looking at this geologic map at the Texas Memorial Museum, looking ahead to where my shows are happening in the next few weeks, and I found out that I'll be singing and playing on land that's:

My gigs plotted on geologic map
If you ever feel old, just look at a geologic time scale and see if afterward you don't feel relatively young.
In more recent news (by a few million years), Jamie Lin Wilson and I were in the studio in June, and we've got a new project in the works that you will be there first to hear about. More details coming soon!
Here's a view from the studio - a panoramic picture I took: that's, left to right, drummer Rick Richards, Jamie Wilson, audio engineer Carter Greeves, and producer Gabe Rhodes.

Also, Jamie, Adam Carroll, Chris Carroll, Kelley Mickwee, Michael Hearne, Chuck Hawthorne and I will be playing our songs at shows over 3 days on August 6, 7 & 8 at Frio River Song Festival in Concan, Texas near Garner State Park.
On Saturday, August 8, Adam Carroll and I will be hosting a morning songwriting workshop from 10am to 1pm that is open to Two Day Pass holders. Get your Two Day Passes here and more details will be sent to you via email so you can join us.

Posted: June 17th, 2015. 1 Comments.

I made an attempt to put together a list of different song types or differnt kinds of songs-

I know it's incomplete, but what's missing? Let me know in the comments!

    - I want to find love

    - Passion - Falling in love, admiration, attraction

    - Mellow- Devotion and family

        - early: surprised and sad

        - later:

            - wish I could fall out of love, longing, wish you would change

On the weekend of November 20-22, Gordy Quist and Owen Temple will again host Songfarmer™, a weekend-long songwriting workshop. First launched in spring of 2014, now our third edition of the workshop will be held on Lake Travis in the beautiful hill country around Austin, Texas.

In addition to the live, in-person workshop, registration for online streaming video of sessions will be available on the days of the workshop via

The creative retreat will be limited to 12-14 folks who are interested in exploring the craft/process/art of songwriting in a collaborative group setting. Through small group discussion, some one-on-one mentorship, and some co-writing sessions, Gordy and Owen will focus on exercises, techniques, and habits for training the mind to always be songfarming/treasure hunting.

The hope is that this relaxing, yet intensive weekend at a beautiful lakeside, hill country getaway, will renew your inspiration and commitment to the cultivation of better songs and we can build a community of new friends that will stay in touch and continue collaborating.

Very Loose/Tentative Schedule:

Friday November 20

12pm - Lunch together in Austin for whoever can make it. This is informal. Those who can make it will caravan together out to Lake Travis where we will explore the grounds, play some music and wait for everyone to arrive.
