Audited 27 Jul 2026 - death CONFIRMED as before Aug 1850: she is absent from the 1850 census, where Matthew's wife is Hannah (49, b. Vermont). The 1968 Huson Cemetery transcription reading 'Phebe, wife of Matthew West, d. Jul 20 1852, ae 59' is a MISREAD of Matthew's own stone, which the 2005 photograph shows reads 'MATTHEW WEST / DIED / July 24, 1852 / in the 59 year of his age.' 1850 U.S. Census, Brant, Erie Co., New York; NARA M432 roll 499, p. 333a dwelling 771 (Matthew) and p. 334b dwelling 787 (George).
