Elrington Ball, 'A History of the County Dublin', vol. 6, p. 72, read in full text 31 Jul 2026: 'Through his marriage to A DAUGHTER OF FRANCIS TREGEON, OF GOLDON, James Plunkett involved himself in the misfortunes of a Roman Catholic family of high rank in Cornwall, and, in an attempt to recover the Tregeon estate, which had been confiscated, loaded his Irish estate with debt.' ⭐ GOLDEN (Goldon) is the SEAT of the recusant Tregian family at Probus, Cornwall — a PLACE, not a person's name. This tree records her as 'GOLDEN TREGEON' with a birthplace of 'GOLDING, CORNWALL, ENGLAND', i.e. the seat has been promoted into her forename and then re-used as her birthplace. ⛔ THE NAME WAS DELIBERATELY NOT CHANGED. Ball does not name her; no source read so far does. We know the forename is wrong and we do NOT know the right one — blanking it would trade a wrong answer for a lost question, and inventing one is worse. Same discipline as Margaret Bagenal's unrecoverable birth date (memo §2B). ✅ WHAT IS CONFIRMED: the MARRIAGE itself, and the Cornish recusant Tregian connection, are Ball's own statement and stand. Her recorded birth year 1598 is uncited and untested. ➡️ TO FIX THE NAME: the Tregian pedigree in the Cornish visitations, or the settlement/marriage deed behind Ball's account of the confiscated Tregian estate.
