Verbatim: "SIDNEY ANN EWING, daughter of Robert and Mary (Baker) Ewing, was born in Bedford County, Va.; died prior to the death of her father; married Adam Linn. Issue: (i) Nancy, married Abraham Boyd, 1796. Issue: 1ST. John, born Nashville, Tenn., about 1798; married Betsy McLean ... several times elected to the Congress of the Republic of Texas; he was one of the founders of Trinity University ... 2ND. Linn, born Nashville, Tenn., Nov. 28, 1800, died Paducah, Ky., Dec. 16, 1859 ... Speaker of the House, 1850-4; he was Lieutenant Governor of Kentucky in 1859 ... 4TH. Alfred, married Lucy Harrison, Issue: John, an attorney-at-law, married Sarah Cook; George, a physician, unmarried; Abraham, an attorney-at-law, married Miss O'Bannon; Agnes, married Mr. Grimes, of Paducah, Ky.; Adeline, and Martha, married Mr. Small. 5TH. CORROBORATES the tree's existing chain joint for joint: [1668] Abraham Boyd x [1669] Nancy Linn (m. 1796) -> [1670] John, [1671] Linn (the Speaker), [1632] Alfred x [1633] Lucy Amis Harrison -> [833] Abraham "attorney-at-law" x Miss O'Bannon = [834] Fannie, with siblings Adeline = [1634] Adaline Linn, Agnes [1635] and Martha [1636] (F520/F516/F348 match the printed structure exactly; note [833]'s middle name HARRISON is his mother's maiden name, and [1634]'s middle name LINN her grandmother's). GRADE: compiled secondary — the book's own p. 45 footnote acknowledges reliance on F. M. Cockrell "without opportunity to verify"; treat as corroboration, not proof. CONFLICTS RECORDED, NOT RESOLVED: Ewing prints Linn's birth Nov. 28, 1800 where the tree (cited elsewhere) holds 22 Nov 1800; Ewing's "about 1798" for John vs the tree's 7 Aug 1796 — see the Audited note on [1670]. Quoted verbatim including OCR corruption (the corruption is itself evidence of a real scan): "Abraham Boyd?the father?was a native of Virginia 'Vr s ?i r accompanied his father-JTame* Boyd to South Carolina, where, as we have stated, at the unripe age of sixteen, he entered the service of his country in the revolutionary war". JTame* = James. The same sketch says Linn Boyd was '(named from his mother,)' and that the family moved to Christian (now Trigg) county, Kentucky in 1803.

Verbatim: "the elder Boyd settled at Nashville ... where HIS SON, LINN BOYD (NAMED FROM HIS MOTHER,) WAS BORN ON THE 23d OF NOVEMBER, IN THE YEAR 1800. ... THE FATHER MOVED WITH HIS FAMILY, IN 1803, TO CHRISTIAN (NOW TRIGG) COUNTY". This is the CONTEMPORARY statement of the Abraham -> Linn father link, published while Linn Boyd was the sitting Speaker of the U.S. House. ⚠️ IT IS ONE PARTISAN INFORMANT: a laudatory political biography, almost certainly family-supplied. It is NOT independent of the family. No proof flag is set. ⚠️ ITS 1803 ARRIVAL CONTRADICTS PERRIN'S 1799, and the difference decides whether [1632] Alfred (b. 9 Oct 1802) was born in Tennessee or Kentucky. Unresolved.

He was a native of North Carolina, but had been a resident of Tennessee in the neighborhood of Nashville, a number of years, and removed thence to the point above stated. The trip must have been made in flat-boats, for there were no roads... He erected his first dwelling on the ground where the present church stands. HIS FATHER-IN-LAW, ADAM LINN, ACCOMPANIED HIM, and made a settlement three miles out from the river on the Luster place. He was a native of Scotland, and a blood relation of the poet Burns. Abraham Boyd was a man of remarkably fine intellect, and for that day a man of considerable culture. He represented the people a number of times in the Legislature when this was a portion of Christian County and afterward when Trigg was formed into a distinct division. He has b[een]... the superior of HIS AFTERWARD DISTINGUISHED SON, HON. LINN BOYD, upon the stump..." ⛔ THIS IS PAGE 108. PERRIN p. 29 IS A DIFFERENT THING - a verbatim reprint of Collins's sketch of Linn Boyd, which does NOT name his parents. Any citation of p. 29 for the father link is really citing Collins, and Collins does not say it. ⭐ THE CONVERGENCE THAT MATTERS IS NOT THE FATHER LINK: The Daily Union (1852) says Linn was 'named from his mother'; Perrin independently says Abraham's father-in-law was ADAM LINN. Two unrelated sources land on a Linn mother, corroborating [1669] Nancy Linn and the granddaughter [1634] Adaline LINN Boyd. ⚠️ CONFLICT, recorded not resolved: Perrin says Abraham was a native of NORTH CAROLINA; The Daily Union says VIRGINIA. Neither is a record.
