AUDITED 2 Aug 2026 (rewritten the same day - the first version of this note asked a question the database had already answered). HIS RECORDED DEATH IS 30 JUN 1828, Bedford, Bedford, Virginia - already in this tree, though UNCITED. THE CHANCERY CAUSE CORROBORATES IT BY SILENCE. Bedford Co., Va. chancery cause 1834-031 enumerates the children and distributees of Jacob W. White three separate times, in demonstrably different hands, as a closed list: Selina (adult, wife of Fountain Hawkins) plus the seven infants William B., Adeline M., Arginia anne, Permelia E., Mary S., Hillary A. and Sarah F. JOHN HENRY IS NOT AMONG THEM - and he should not be, because he had been dead six years when the suit was brought. Had he been living he would have been 15, an infant party requiring a guardian ad litem, and the clerk would have named him. ⭐ THAT IS THE EVIDENTIAL POINT, AND IT IS MODEST BUT REAL: an absence CONSISTENT WITH a recorded fact is corroboration of it, in a way that an unexplained absence is not. His death date carries no citation; this is the first independent thing that agrees with it. ⛔ IT IS NOT PROOF AND NO CITATION HAS BEEN ATTACHED TO THE DEATH. A cause that omits a person is consistent with his being dead, with his being omitted, and with his not being Jacob's son at all. The document says nothing about him whatever - that is the whole of its content here. ⚠️ HOW THE FIRST VERSION OF THIS NOTE WENT WRONG, recorded because the mechanism recurs: it declined to infer a death - correctly, in form - without first checking whether the tree already recorded one. It did. Query before writing, not merely before applying.
