Working notes from the research, kept verbatim — what was read, what it proved, what stays open. Many open with a line grading the parentage; what the grades mean.

Research note · 23 Sep 2026
AUDITED 22 Sep 2026 - created by rm-apply-2227-maddin-father-argument-20260922.py as the father of [2227] Anastasia Catching. The proof argument lives in HER Audited note, not here. DENNIS MADDEN - spelled "Maddin" in the Georgia Archives vault index, "Madden" in the manuscript - died intestate in Wilkes County, Georgia, before 28 December 1798, the date of the earliest receipt on his estate. His son Richard Madden administered it. THE ESTATE FILE: Georgia Archives Virtual Vault, Wilkes County Estate Records collection p17154coll10, item 26796, GRG2-267 = microfilm 10130-030, 12 loose pages, child ids 26784-26795, read on the image 22 Sep 2026 (register K782). The return sworn in open court 25 February 1801 enters five legacies of $334.06 each - Ann Trail, David Madden, Isaac Wilkins, Meredith Catching (that is [2227]'s share, paid to her husband) and Richard Maddin as administrator - against an appraisement of $2,007.06. The $336.76 difference is a sixth share, matched by Jeremiah Fletcher's August 1801 receipt (GAGenWeb "Original Papers M-S" abstract, register K783). HE LEFT NO WILL. The Wilkes County wills index 1794-1819 carries no Madden or Maddin will; the sweep was run with a positive control, the "Catching, Unestacy" row being present in the same index (register K785). HIS WIFE IS UNNAMED AND WAS PREDECEASED - no widow's third is claimed anywhere in the file - which is why the mother slot of this family is left empty. ORIGIN UNTESTED: a Rootsweb-lodged Elbert County query gives him a Frederick County, Maryland origin. One compiled claim, no record; recorded here as a lead, not as a fact. HIS WIFE - A HYPOTHESIS ONLY, RECORDED 23 Sep 2026 (round-4 triage A1, Owen). The DAR Ancestor Database entry A072996, as read by the round-4 dossier (agent-report-3440-dennis-madden-2026-09-22.md), gives him a wife 'Anestascia/Anestacy'. The daughter [2227] is not in doubt: she took an equal distributive share of his estate in her own signature, 25 Feb 1801. The reading carried here is that he had BOTH a wife and a daughter of that name, the wife dying before him - no widow's third is claimed in the file. A DAR application is a compiled statement, so no wife is entered; the empty mother slot stays empty until a record names her. TO TEST HIS MARYLAND ORIGIN FIRST: the Maryland Prerogative Court wills index 1634-1777 under M, then Frederick County wills and administrations, then tax lists.
