AUDITED 28 Sep 2026 - JAMES WALLIS (WALLACE) OF SOMERSET TOWNSHIP, WASHINGTON COUNTY, PENNSYLVANIA, "yoman". Known from one record: his will, Washington Co. Will Book No. 4, p. 333 (typescript re-recording; FamilySearch "Pennsylvania, Probate Records, 1683-1994", Wills 1814-1832 vol 3-4, image 479, film 005537969). He signed it 13 December 1826; it was proved 26 March 1828 before Saml. Cunningham, Deputy Register, on the oaths of the witnesses Wm Niblack and William Thompson - so he died between those dates, which is how his Death fact is recorded. He wrote his name Wallis; his daughters' line and the 1893 Commemorative Biographical Record write Wallace.
THE CHILDREN HIS WILL NAMES, one dollar each, in the order written: Ann Thompson wife of William Thompson; Mary Wallis; Margret Sarah (no comma on the page - one daughter or two); Rebeka Crouch wife of Bendit Crouch = [113]; Ada Wallis; John; Mikel; Charity. Everything else, real and personal, to "my beloved wife Rebecka Wallis", his executrix. ONLY [113] IS ATTACHED. The will's Charity fits [2730] Charity (Wallace) Crouch, whom the 1893 sketch (p. 1313) calls [113]'s sister, but the will gives her first name only, so she is not attached (Owen, 28 Sep 2026). The others are listed so that a future session need not re-read the will, not offered as tree entries. Register K869.
HIS WIFE IS NOT ENTERED AS A PERSON. The will names a wife Rebecca but does not call her the mother of these children. Charity's 1880 census line (Fallowfield Twp., ED 248, read on the image 5 Aug 2026) gives her mother's birthplace as Maryland. Open: his estate papers, the widow's own estate or heirs' deeds, and the 1830 and 1840 Somerset Township census.
THE 1810 CENSUS: the index for Washington Co., Pa. places no James Wallace in Somerset Township; two James Wallace households sit in Fallowfield (p. 76 line 1) and Pike Run (p. 83 line 61). Which, if either, is this man is not settled.
