My mother died Decr. 24, 1894. My mother had a life estate in the Estate of my father, and enjoyed it until her death. The personal property of testator has been sold, and all the debts, taxes, &c., have been paid. All the Legacies have been paid as directed by the will. My father conveyed his old home tract of land, on Keowee River, in Pickens County, to Alexr. Ramsay, Jr. and myself, appraising the same at Three Thousand Dollars. We gave him our receipts for fifteen hundred dollars each. He conveyed the land to us by Deed. I sold my interest in the tract to my brother Alexander, & conveyed same to him by Deed. The balance of Testator's Real Estate was devised to Thos. S. Ramsay, Wm. J. Ramsay, Geo. J. Ramsay. A. H. Ramsay and Geo. J. Ramsay purchased the interest of Thos. S. Ramsay and Wm. J. Ramsay in these lands. We have the Deed of Thos. S. Ramsay for his interest therein. The interest of Wm. J. Ramsay passed to A. H. AUDITED 30 Sep 2026 - SARAH H. (REID) RAMSAY, wife and widow of Alexander Ramsay Sr. of Tugaloo, Oconee Co., South Carolina; died 24 Dec 1894. Her son Andrew H. Ramsay swore on 11 Dec 1900: "My mother died Decr. 24, 1894. My mother had a life estate in the Estate of my father" (Oconee Probate Court, Apartment 16, Package 177, read on the image, register K938). Her husband's will of 24 Apr 1869 left the residue to "my beloved wife Sarah H. Ramsay" for her life or widowhood (K936). In the census she is Sarah, 46, in 1850 and Sarah H, 55, in 1860 (indexes read, K900-K901). Her maiden name Reid comes from her youngest son George Julius Ramsey's 1926 South Carolina death certificate, which names his mother "Sallie Reid" (read on the image, K902), and is repeated in her children's names Joseph Reid, Elizabeth R. and Isabella Rose. Entered as mother of [428] Thomas Samuel Ramsay; the argument is in his note. Online trees give her as Sarah Hartgrove Reid, 1804-1894; no record read gives Hartgrove. Her parents are unknown.
