Research note · 25 Oct 2026
AUDITED 25 Oct 2026 - LOURANY, wife of John Spears/Spiers of Hancock County, Mississippi, born about 1801 in Tennessee. 1850 census (K1084): Lourany Spears, 49, born Tennessee. In the 1870 census (K1087) a 'Lurancy' written as aged 10 is in John Spears's household; whether that is her with a mis-written age or a granddaughter is unresolved. Her maiden name is given as Perry (Louranea Perry) only by a compiled, uncited family site (spiers.net); it is NOT proven and is NOT entered as her surname. Two granddaughters carry her name: Lurany Jarrell (1870 state census, K1297) and Lurana Spears (1880 census, K1088). Attached as mother of [181] Mary Elizabeth Jarrell by ARGUMENT; see that note. Her parents are unknown.
