Research note · 30 Sep 2026
AUDITED 30 Sep 2026 - WILLIAM SEAMAN OF UPTON SCUDAMORE, WILTSHIRE, gent. This person came in with an early import carrying no source of any kind and a birth year of 1550. The 1550 was blanked 30 Sep 2026 (round-8 triage, Owen): nothing stands behind it, and it cannot sit beside a lease taken in 1606 and a death in 1660. WHAT NAMES HIM - one record only: the Salisbury marriage licence of 3 Jan 1616-17, 'John Temple, of Bishopstrowe, gent., to Marie, daughter of William Seame[an], of Upton Scudamore', known from the abstract in Va. Mag. of Hist. & Biog. XVIII (1910), p. 88 (citation 6933). The licence has not been seen in the original, so his link to [92] Mary is not graded. HER BROTHERS: her husband's will (PCC, register Lee quire 4, read on the register image 31 Jul 2026; citation 6932) names 'my brothers in lawe William Seaman, Clearke, and Samuell Seaman, gentlemen' as overseers; the witnesses are Tho. Seaman and Samuell Seaman, and William Seaman, rector of Upton Skidmore, took the oath. They are not entered as persons (Owen, 30 Sep 2026). SECONDARY CONTEXT, not read on the page by this project: the ODNB life of the rector William Seaman (1606/7-1680) and VCH Wiltshire vol. 8 (Upton Scudamore) are reported to describe a William Seaman, gentleman, as tenant of Acres Farm from 1606, buying its lease in 1636, d. 1660 (agent-report-524-william-seaman-2026-09-30.md). HIS OWN PARENTS: unknown. Next documents: a PCC or Salisbury diocesan will of William Seaman, c. 1660-62; the original licence allegation at WSHC. Upton Scudamore's registers begin 1654.
