White decd" - three times, in two hands. PROOF CLASS: MOTHER = ARGUMENT (Owen graded 8 Sep 2026). Bedford Co., Va. marriage bonds pp. 127, 152, 163, 166 - her own 1833 bond is consented to by "Matilda White - mo." and two sisters' bonds name the same woman, self-labelled. AUDITED 8 Sep 2026 - her first. FATHER PROVEN ON A COURT RECORD. Bedford County, Virginia, chancery cause 1834-031, Fountain Hawkins & Selina his wife (formerly Selina White) against the widow and distributees of Jacob W. White dec'd. She is enumerated THREE TIMES: p. 0005 rotated left margin (the defendant list), p. 0011 the Answer of the Infants, and p. 0018 Holt's commissioner report - the last in a demonstrably different hand. The p. 0011 text: "The answer of [struck: Joseph Wilson] WILLIAM B. WHITE, ADELINE M. WHITE, ARGINIA ANNE WHITE, PERMELIA E. WHITE, MARY S. WHITE, HILLARY A. WHITE, & SARAH F. WHITE - Infant children & distributees of JACOB W. WHITE dec'd, by Joseph Wilson the commissioner of this court specially assigned the guardian". IDENTITY: right county (she was born in Bedford Co.), right middle initial (M = Martha), an infant under 21 in 1834 at age 17, right father's name and style. Citation C6977. ⚠ PROVENANCE, STATED RATHER THAN ASSUMED: the cause was AGENT-READ on the images, all 22 pages, 2 Aug 2026, and has NOT been personally re-verified; the images are not on local disk. The cheapest upgrade is a personal read of p. 0011 on the LVA scan. ⚠ TRAP, recorded because it nearly worked: Peter, Rachel, Maria, Sylvia, Jourdan and Andrew appear in the same bill as ENSLAVED PEOPLE listed as personal property, immediately alongside the heirs. A partial read takes that list for the decedent's children. ◎ MOTHER = ARGUMENT, graded 8 Sep 2026. THIS PARAGRAPH REPLACES the one formerly here, which said the mother half was ungraded with the flag at 0. FOUR ROWS of "Bedford County, Virginia Marriage Bonds 1800 to 1853" (Genealogical Society of Utah typescript, reprinted by Allen County Public Library; archive.org item bedfordcountyvir00unse), read on the OCR text 8 Sep 2026, register K525: (1) page 127 - this bride's own bond, "Plunkett, Alexander A. N." x "Adeline White", consent cell "Matilda White - mo." (2) page 152, 12 Dec 1840 - "Thaxton, James C." x "Permelia E. White", consent "Matilda Thaxton - mo. of Permelia E." The cell NAMES the daughter, so it does not depend on column alignment. (3) page 166, July 1847 - "Williams, Septimus L." x "Sarah Frances White", consent "Matilda Thaxton - mo. of Sarah Frances" - likewise self-labelling. (4) page 163, bond 16 Dec 1812 - "White, Jacob W." x "Matilda Buford", bondsmen "Jacob White - f." and "Thomas Logwood - gdn. of Matilda", the last self-labelling. Permelia E. [2520] and Sarah Frances [2523] are two of the seven infants named beside Adeline in chancery 1834-031, so rows (2) and (3) name the mother of Adeline's own sisters. Row (4) dates the marriage 16 Dec 1812, ten months before the eldest of F660's nine children (Selina [2517], born 18 Oct 1813), which leaves no earlier wife of Jacob W. White able to have borne any of them - the shape the chancery cause alone could not supply. ◎ THE ALIGNMENT CONTROL FOR ROW (1), because that cell alone does not name the daughter. Page 127 OCRs as vertical column blocks. Pairing bride to consent in sequence, after dropping two "(reg.)" cells, matches surnames on eleven rows besides ours - Wood, Basham, Atkinson, Haynes, Needham, Coleman, Murphy, Kerr, Swain, Watt - and lands the self-labelling cell "John S. Poindexter - f. of Ann E." exactly on bride Ann E. Poindexter. Shifting the pairing one row either way drops that count to 1 and to 0, so the control can go red. Reading the "(reg.)" cells as rows instead gives ten matches at shift +1 and the SAME consent cell for Adeline, so the two readings of the page converge on this answer. ⚠ WHAT IS SOFT IN THIS SOURCE, SAID PLAINLY. The volume is a mid-20th-century typescript ABSTRACT of the original bonds, read as archive.org OCR of that typescript - three removes from the parchment - and the book's own front matter warns the typescript is faded. Treat every DIGIT in it as soft: the date cell at page 127 OCRs "Sept. 1835", which cannot be right, because this couple's son [195] was born 17 Oct 1834 and Adeline died 9 Aug 1835; the same page OCRs 1846 as "1946", 1851 as "1951" and 1829 as "1929". The month agrees with F345's 26 Sep 1833. THE MATERNAL LINK DOES NOT DEPEND ON THE DATE. The groom is printed "Alexander A. N. Plunkett" against the tree's "Achilles Nivison"; the initials A. N. agree and the abstractor may have expanded "A." wrongly, so it is quoted as printed, not silently corrected. ⚠ TWO NAMESAKE TRAPS IN THE SAME VOLUME. A DIFFERENT "Matilda White" appears as a BRIDE at page 152 - do not read her as this woman. And "Jacob White - f." on the 1812 bond at page 163 is the GROOM's parent, a second Jacob White, not the bride's. ◎ WHY ARGUMENT AND NOT DIRECT: the relationship is stated in words, but what was read is an abstract three removes from the bond - the same provenance on which [759] was recorded with no class in this same batch. Identity of the consenting woman across "White" in 1833 and "Thaxton" in 1840 and 1847 rests on her photographed headstone, MATILDA J. THAXTON, born 11 Feb 1793 and died 10 Mar 1876, Find a Grave memorial 135332321, and on chancery 1834-031 still styling her Matilda White on 28 Jan 1834. THE CHEAPEST UPGRADE TO DIRECT: the original Bedford County marriage bond and consent paper for Plunkett x White, 1833, at the Library of Virginia. PROVENANCE OF THIS FINDING: located by an agent 2 Aug 2026 and written up in ancestry/plunkett-white-buford-bedford-2026-08-02.md, filed under the PLUNKETT junction, which is why [815]'s own worklist never showed it; re-verified against the archive.org text before this grade.
