Research note · 25 Jul 2026
Audited 25 Jul 2026 - Junction #4: 1850 census read (Nancy, 60, b. TN). Birth/origin claims unproven; Garner children were grandchildren. See ancestry/catchings-branch-research.md. NAME DEMOTED 19 Sep 2026: the surname 'Burford' is moved off her primary name and onto an alternate name marked tree-derived. It rests on ONE 2003 Find a Grave spouse-field entry (her husband's memorial 8034787), whose own dates for her - 1795-1835 - are refuted by the 1850 census read recorded above, which finds her alive and aged 60; she has no memorial of her own, and every free-web trace of the name runs back to that single field. Register K776 records the sweep behind this, including seven controlled negatives: the 1812 Franklin Co., Tenn. tax list (1,180 taxpayers, Bean=28 / Smith=15 / Jones=13 controls), the reconstructed Franklin Co. marriage list 1806-1837, the Wilkes Co., Ga. will index 1794-1819 (323 wills, Smith=5 control) and its loose papers, Marcus Buford's 1903-04 Buford genealogy, and Warren Co., Ky. probate 1798-1814. Her birthplace is left displayed as unknown on purpose: the 1850 census is the only source-bearing claim of Tennessee, four contradictory tree claims (Va., Ky., S.C., Tenn.) compete with it, and that census is named in this note but is NOT yet attached to her birth event as a citation - until it is, there is nothing on the event for a reader to check.
