After I visited Hemingway’s Key West home, I read his book Islands in the Stream in which his hero says “I love the sea. And would not be anywhere else. She’s my home… She creates life and she ends it. She has beauty and great mystery. And she’s eternal.” And of course, Jimmy Buffett called her Mother Ocean.
From the deck of a boat, looking at a straight line blue horizon a few months later, I understood, and I wrote this song with Walt Wilkins. I’ll be in Galveston on Thursday, just steps away from the big blue that covers 71% of this planet.
