Diner in North Bend, Washington

A watercolor I painted of the interior of a North Bend, Washington diner. It looks like it could be 1957, but I visited it just recently and it looked like this.

This location – Twede’s Cafe – was the inspiration for the famous Double R Diner on the TV show Twin Peaks. I spent some time soaking up the atmosphere, I had the cherry pie and coffee, and I imagined the jukebox would have sounded incredible with Fats Domino playing – especially since the place was open in 1957.

Did anybody else watch Twin Peaks and remember this place? Prints of this watercolor are here.

In the immortal words of Special Agent Dale Cooper, they did serve “a damn fine cup of coffee” and it “must be where pies go when they die.”
