Working notes from the research, kept verbatim — what was read, what it proved, what stays open. Many open with a line grading the parentage; what the grades mean.

Research note · 30 Sep 2026
AUDITED 30 Sep 2026 - PRIMARY NAME NOW 'Ambrose Bush' (Owen, 30 Sep 2026); 'James Ambrose' is kept as an alternate. The sources named in agent-report-1131-james-ambrose-bush-2026-09-30.md call him Ambrose; the tree also holds his son [1086] James Ambrose Bush, and A. C. Quisenberry (1897) keeps the two generations apart (register K164). FATHER - NOT YET ENTERED: the will of Philip Bush of Orange Co., Va., dated 10 May 1771, proved 24 Sep 1772, Will Book 2 pp. 453-455, witnessed by James Madison Sr. and Thomas Barbour, is abstracted (Quisenberry 1897 and later copies) as naming a son Ambrose. Not read on the page; held until it is. Other leads: a Bush family Bible 1733-1863 at the Library of Virginia (Ambrose b. 8 Apr 1748), and a 1745 Orange Co. deed from William Bryan to Philip Bush for a nominal sum. THIS FAMILY (F416) NEEDS AN AUDIT before any parent is added: five marriage events for one couple (one placed at Boonesboro, Ky. in 1757), a child dated 1758, a duplicate daughter Jane b. 22 Jan 1775, and an 'Esther Rawlings' entered as a child.
