READ FROM THE LIVE SITE 31 Jul 2026, http://freepages.rootsweb.com/~crouch/genealogy/p3.htm, with controls on the same fetch: Crouch x245, Tennessee x11, Washington x14. "Elijah Crouch M, b. 1770, d. 1825. Father: John Crouch b. c 1727, d. c 1811. Mother: Sarah Barbury b. 1729, d. 1782. [grandfather] Joseph Crouch d. 1742. Birth*: Elijah Crouch was born in 1770 at VIRGINIA. He was the son of John Crouch and Sarah Barbury. Marriage*: Elijah Crouch married MARY ELLIS on 16 January 1792 at WASHINGTON, TENNESSEE. Death*: Elijah Crouch died in 1825 at McMINN, TENNESSEE. Family: Mary Ellis b. 1772" ⭐ FOUR OF THIS TREE'S VALUES MATCH THIS PAGE EXACTLY — Elijah 1770/1825, Mary Ellis b. 1772, Sarah Barbary b. 1729/30, and a John Crouch above him. That is a copy relationship, not a coincidence. ⛔ THE MECHANICAL CAUSE OF THE ERROR IS ONE WORD: 'Washington' was resolved to the WRONG STATE — Washington Co., PENNSYLVANIA instead of Washington Co., TENNESSEE. ⭐⭐ AND IT LOCATES THE FABRICATED JOINT: here SARAH BARBARY IS THE WIFE OF JOHN CROUCH (c.1727), an age-appropriate pair, and Elijah is THEIR son. This tree interpolates a 'Nathan Crouch b. 1750' between them and hands him a wife twenty years his senior. Independently, a search of the Somerset Co., Maryland records finds NO NATHAN AT ALL (control: 'Nathan' returns 1,066 hits in the same tax files). ⚠️ ELIJAH IS LISTED HERE WITH MARY ELLIS AND NO CHILDREN, and 'Benedict' appears nowhere on the site — so the Benedict->Elijah link was NOT inherited from this source; it was made separately, on a name. Mary Ellis is given NO DEATH DATE here, so this tree's d.1810 is unsourced, and a SECOND Mary Ellis (b. c.1765, wife of Edmund Bean) sits in the same compilation. ⚠️ THIS SOURCE IS A COMPILATION WITH NO CITATIONS. It proves what was copied. It does not prove the Tennessee facts.

READ ON THE FILM IMAGE 13 Aug 2026. NARA M252 (population schedules of the third census, 1810), roll 15 = Internet Archive item populationschedu0015unix, leaf 98, lower half = manuscript page 295. Free, no sign-in wall. VERBATIM ROW: "Nathan Crouch" — free white males: under 10 = 2, 16 and under 26 = 1, 45 and upward = 1. Free white females: under 10 = 2, 16 and under 26 = 1, 45 and upward = 1. All other free persons = 0. Slaves = 0. Household of 8. THE SHEET: Cecil County's closing recapitulation. Column totals 1554 / 753 / 914 / 1055 / 760 | 1421 / 721 / 919 / 912 / 643 | 947 | 2467, written over the summary "Jan'y 1st 1811 — Free White Males 5041 — Free White Females 4611 — free Negroes 947 — Slaves 2467 — The whole number of Persons within Cecil County 13067", signed "Joshua Ward". COLUMN GRID CALIBRATED, NOT ASSUMED: 5041 + 4611 + 947 + 2467 = 13067 reconciles the totals row with the written summary, which fixes columns 1-5 as free white males by age and 6-10 as free white females. Nathan's row and the totals row were cropped into ONE image so the alignment is proved rather than inferred across two crops. PAGINATION CHECKED AT THREE POINTS: leaf 78 = page 254; leaf 96 = pages 290/291; leaf 98 = pages 294/295. So page = 2 x leaf + 98. BOUNDED: pages 290, 291, 294 and 295 were read at full resolution and Nathan is the only Crouch on them. A full Cecil County name-column sweep (leaves about 68-98) has NOT been done — a reduced-scale strip was generated and deliberately not read, because at that scale the hand is illegible and a "no other Crouch" from it would be a manufactured zero. Research note · 13 Aug 2026
AUDITED 31 Jul 2026; CORRECTED 13 Aug 2026 — THE EARLIER VERDICT IN THIS NOTE WAS WRONG. ★ HE IS ATTESTED: 1810 US Census, CECIL County, Maryland, manuscript page 295 — "Nathan Crouch", head of household, 1 male 45+ (fits b. 1750). Full tally: free white males under 10 = 2, 16-25 = 1, 45+ = 1; free white females under 10 = 2, 16-25 = 1, 45+ = 1; no slaves, no other free persons; household of 8. The sheet is Cecil County's closing recapitulation, dated "Jan'y 1st 1811" and signed by assistant marshal Joshua Ward (NARA M252 roll 15). ⛔ Citations 859 and 860 ON THIS PERSON have cited that exact page since before this project began, with ActualText empty — nobody had opened it. ⛔ WITHDRAWN: "the fabricated joint of this branch", and "remove Nathan and two anomalies dissolve at once". He is a documented person, not an interpolation. ✪ THE EVIDENCE BENEATH THE OLD VERDICT STANDS, UNCHANGED: (1) he appears NOWHERE in the Somerset Co., MD records — probate, land, or the Court Tax Lists 1723-1759 — a control-checked real zero, since "Nathan" returns 1,066 hits across those same files. Cecil is at the head of the Chesapeake on the Pennsylvania line, about 150 miles NORTH of Somerset, so that absence LOCATES him rather than erasing him. (2) The Tennessee source this tree copied gives SARAH BARBARY as the wife of JOHN CROUCH (b. c.1727), an age-appropriate pair, with Elijah as THEIR son — so this tree has handed Nathan a wife TWENTY YEARS HIS SENIOR. ☞ SO THE BREAK IS IN THE TWO JOINS, NOT IN THE MAN, and they are separate questions: (a) [115] to F76, the Somerset parents John Crouch x Elizabeth Evans — no evidence either way; (b) [114] Elijah to F75, Nathan as his father — no evidence, and the 1893 Commemorative Biographical Record is silent on Elijah's parents. ⛔ THE CONSEQUENCE FOR THE MARYLAND FLOOR IS UNCHANGED: the Somerset chain (Robert Crouch d.1711 -> John d.1724/5 -> John Sr./Jr.) is real and well documented, and Anne Toadvine's parentage there is PROVEN — but it still reaches Owen only through an unsupported join. DOCUMENTED IS NOT THE SAME AS OURS. ⛔ NOTHING DELETED, NO LINK CUT. Flags stay 3=DISPUTED: a man who demonstrably exists is not disproven, he is unjoined. ◎ NEXT DOCUMENT: Cecil Co., MD probate and land, about 1810-1820 — he is 60 in 1810 and this tree kills him in 1815, so a will or administration would name his children and settle the Elijah join in one record.
