Research notes

Working notes from the research, kept verbatim — what was read, what it proved, what stays open. Many open with a line grading the parentage; what the grades mean.

Research note · 7 Oct 2026
AUDITED 7 Oct 2026 - PARENTS UNKNOWN; PARKED (round-10 triage, Owen). A real, documented man: Venn's Cambridge alumni entry (ACAD) has him 'B. at Sudbury, Suffolk', and the Bruton Parish mural tablet calls him 'Born of reputable Parents' without naming them; VMHB 3 (1896) and 5 (1897) name no parent either. The only named parents, 'William Cocke and Susan', come from Rowe, Dictionary of Virginia Biography 3 (2006), and Rowe says 'probably'; every later web copy restates Rowe, so it is one hedged informant (agent-report-2270-dr-william-cocke-2026-10-07.md). Not entered. ⛔ A '2 Apr 1672, St Peter's, Sudbury' baptism in that report has no source and must not be used. WHETHER HE IS AN ANCESTOR IS DECIDED BELOW HIM: his only path down runs through [1760] Lucy Cocke (ungraded) to [56] Anne Waring, whose MOTHER half is UNDERDETERMINED (Owen, 13 Sep 2026), and [1760]'s own note records that most sources marry Lucy to Col. THOMAS Waring. No upward work here until [56]'s mother half moves.
