Working notes from the research, kept verbatim — what was read, what it proved, what stays open. Many open with a line grading the parentage; what the grades mean.

Research note · 7 Oct 2026
AUDITED 7 Oct 2026 - PARENTS NAMED IN ONE COMPILED TRADITION, NOT ENTERED; PARKED (round-10 triage, Owen). The biographies of the naturalist Mark Catesby make the wife of [2270] Dr. William Cocke his older sister Elizabeth, daughter of John Catesby of Sudbury (d. 1703) and Elizabeth Jekyll (m. Castle Hedingham 1670). The 7 Oct 2026 agent report (agent-report-2271-elizabeth-catesby-2026-10-07.md) presented this as three independent channels; it is one - Rowe 2006 names no father, and the Jekyll pedigree never links the daughter to Cocke. Graded as good secondary only, like the 1933 Yeatman compilation. Birthplace left as 'Suffolk, England'; Castle Hedingham (Mark's baptism) is a lead, not her birthplace. Deciding record: John Catesby's will, 1703-04 (TNA PROB 11, or Suffolk Archives IC 500/1). Her death date 4 Mar 1755 was also on her daughter [1760] Lucy - the only two deaths in the tree on that day; Lucy's was blanked 7 Oct 2026 as the likely copy. Whether she is an ancestor is decided below her: see [2270].
