Research note · 12 Oct 2026
PROOF CLASS: FATHER = DIRECT (Owen, 12 Oct 2026) - her obituary, Macon Telegraph 12 Jan 1949 p. 8: "the daughter of the late Allen Ham". Register K1016; the 1880 census (K1018) agrees. PROOF CLASS: MOTHER = DIRECT (Owen, 12 Oct 2026) - her obituary, Macon Telegraph 12 Jan 1949 p. 8, names her mother as "Mrs. Isabelle Hall Ham". Register K1016; the 1880 census (K1018) agrees. INFORMANT: the obituary names no reporting party; most likely the family, since it lists the survivors. Her parents had died in 1911 and 1905. The 1880 census of Allen Ham's household (K1018) was made by a different hand while all three were alive. AUDITED 12 Oct 2026 - BOTH PARENTS ENTERED: Allen Hamm (about 1845 - 1911), farmer, and Isabella (Hall) Hamm (about 1843 - 1905), of Jefferson County, Georgia. The records spell the name Ham; the tree uses Hamm, as her own entry does. Annie was born 3 Jun 1867, married [3420] Eben Tarver Watkins, and died at Macon on 10 Jan 1949, aged 81. THE EVIDENCE. (1) Her obituary in the Macon Telegraph, 12 Jan 1949, page 8, read on the image (K1016): "the daughter of the late Allen Ham and Mrs. Isabelle Hall Ham, both of Jefferson County". It names among her surviving daughters "Mrs. J. [F.] Jarrell, Moultrie", who is [136] Annie Belle Watkins Jarrell, so the obituary is of this Annie. The Augusta Chronicle of the same day, seen in the FamilySearch index only (K1017), names the same parents. It is most likely the same family notice and is not counted as a second witness. (2) The 1880 census, District 85, sheet 280C, read on the image (K1018): Allen Ham, 35, Isabelle, 37, Wife, and Annie, 12, Daughter. Her age fits a birth in 1867. Living next door in 1880 was Patsy Hall, 78. She may have been Isabella's mother, but that has not been tested and she is not entered.
