CREATED 19 Sep 2026 as the FATHER of [348] Cornelia Carter, on Owen's ruling of that date. Graded ARGUMENT, not DIRECT: no record read by this project states the relationship. The argument is written out in her own note. Registers K733, K734, K737, K739, K504.
IDENTITY, AND IT IS AN IDENTIFICATION FROM AGREEING COLUMNS RATHER THAN A STATED ONE. He is 'Cyrus H Carter', 38, farmer, born Georgia, head of dwelling and family 1517 in the 1850 U.S. census of Pontotoc County, Mississippi (register K733, read on the image); and 'Harrison Carter', 48, farmer, born Georgia, head of dwelling 670 in the 1860 U.S. census of Center Township, Sebastian County, Arkansas (register K734, read on the image). 38 in 1850 and 48 in 1860 both give a birth year about 1812; both give Georgia. The 1860 line marks him UNABLE TO READ OR WRITE, which coheres with the signature 'Cyrus X his mark Carter' on the Travis County, Texas register of qualified voters of July 1867 (TSLAC reel 3570, line 744). 'Harrison' is taken to be the H. of the 1850 entry used as a calling name.
WHERE HE WAS, IN ORDER. Georgia by birth about 1812; four children born Alabama about 1839 to 1844; a daughter Martha born Georgia about 1848; Pontotoc County, Mississippi at 1 Nov 1850; Center Township, Sebastian County, Arkansas at 26 Jul 1860, by which date three more children had been born in Arkansas; Travis County, Texas by July 1867. ⛔ NO DEATH EVENT IS ENTERED. He is last seen alive on the July 1867 voter register and his wife is a widow by the 1900 census; nothing read so far dates the death, and a range written as a fact would be an inference wearing a date.
⛔ RECORDED NEGATIVE so nobody re-chases it (register K735): Ancestry's suggested 1870 census of Gwinnett, Georgia (collection 7163 record 5051883) and 1880 census of Goodwins, Gwinnett, Georgia (collection 6742 record 7793132) are a DIFFERENT Cyrus Carter - the Gwinnett County man who married Caroline Jackson on 29 Sep 1850, while ours was enumerated in Pontotoc, Mississippi on 1 Nov 1850 with a wife Martha and five children. A man aged 38 in 1850 is not 40 in 1870. Do NOT attach either record, and the 'father b. South Carolina, mother b. Virginia' on the Gwinnett man's 1880 line are NOT this man's parents.
⛔ THE NEXT DOCUMENT, and it is the only one left that can carry his own parents: the Fayette County, Georgia marriage book, 13 Apr 1835, for Syrus H. Carter and Martha Yates. The project holds only a text-only abstract of it (Ancestry collection 7839 record 33460) with no image. A Travis County probate or estate for him is the second - but an estate enumerates the family of PROCREATION, so expect his widow and children and do not expect his parents.
