Research note · 29 Sep 2026
AUDITED 24 Sep 2026 - FIRST NOTE. Mother of [992], graded ARGUMENT by Owen 24 Sep 2026; the proof summary is in [992]'s note. Her gravestone in the Presbyterian Cemetery, Williamsburg, Blair Co., Pa. (Find a Grave 203612609, photograph read 24 Sep 2026) reads "MARY JANE / wife of / JOHN ALEXANDER / DIED / Dec. 26, 1847. / Aged / 36 y[rs]", which puts her birth about 1811. The stone gives no maiden name. SHELLER comes from the 1923 Pennsylvania death certificate of her daughter Mary J. Alexander Hughes, no. 7754, which gives the mother's maiden name as "Mary Sheller", born Pa. Her own parents are unknown. 29 Sep 2026 - A HYPOTHESIS FOR HER PARENTS, NOT A GRADE (round-7 triage B1, C1; Owen). Christian Sheller and Margaret Peden of Lewisburg are the working candidates: the one Sheller couple on Find a Grave there, her son's name Hugh Paden Alexander, her son Samuel Sheller Alexander, and Hugh P. Sheller, a Lewisburg banker in Ellis 1886 whom the round-7 dossier reads as Hugh Peden Sheller. Nothing read names her as their daughter. The earlier searches for 'Paden' in Linn 1877, Ellis 1886 and the Bucknell catalogue were re-run for 'Peden' (register K884): Ellis 1886 vol. 2 has a John Peden of Lancaster County who took up land in Buffalo Valley in 1769 and died by 1776, and nothing links him to her. Next: the two Sheller stones at Lewisburg (Find a Grave 106733130, 106733309). Dossier: agent-report-3447-mary-jane-sheller-2026-09-28.md.
