AUDITED 8 Oct 2026 - MARY ELIZABETH (PITTS) BARRETT, born about 1828 in Georgia, wife of Benjamin J. Barrett of Butler County, Alabama, whom she married in April 1846 in Butler County. She was widowed in 1863 and had moved to Franklin County, Texas, by about 1873. She appears in the 1860 census as E. Barrett, 32, born Georgia (K966), and in 1870 as Elizabeth Barrett, 42, born Ga., keeping house in Township 8, Butler County, with seven children including Thomas 19 and Mary 8 (K965). In 1899 she applied for a Texas Confederate widow's pension, no. 1499, aged 71, after 26 years in Franklin County, post office Mount Vernon (K967). Two of her children's Texas death certificates give her maiden name: Thomas Jefferson Barrett's, 1919, "Mary Elizabeth Pitts", born Georgia (K964); and [3423] Mary Elizabeth Holder's, 1943, "Elizabeth Pitts", born Alabama (K963). Only [3423] is attached in this tree. Find a Grave gives her as Mary Ann Elizabeth Pitts, 1828-1910 (K253, compiled, not adopted). Her death record and her parents are not yet read.
