Research note · 3 Nov 2026
AUDITED 3 Nov 2026 - LINDSEY POWELL, of Casey County, Kentucky. Married Margaret Carpenter in Lincoln County on 24 Feb 1798 (K772, index). Dead by 5 May 1864, when the Casey Circuit Court, in George C. Powell and others v. Eliza Jackson and others, ordered the privy examination of 'Sally Carpenter the Wife of George F Carpenter, (late Sally Powell)' on the sale of 'the Slaves of her Father Lindsey Powel' (K1605); on 8 Mar 1865 the court, in the suit now captioned against 'L Powell's Hs', ordered the slaves sold 'at the late residence of L Powell dec'd' for 'the use of L Powell's heirs' (K1606). Attached as father of [957] Sallie (DIRECT); see her note. His other children, his birth (14 Mar 1776, Amherst Co., Va.), his death date (28 Dec 1863) and his parents (Edmund Powell and Lucy Joplin) come from compiled family accounts and are not sourced here. Not 'Dr' and not 'Coleman': no record read gives either (Owen's ruling, 19 Sep 2026).
