Hello fellow travelers
(Yes, fellow travelers, because even if you are sitting down, the earth is spinning around its axis, so that here in Austin I am going at 898 mph).
(Oh, and not to mention that we are also revolving around the sun, so we are all also traveling at a speed of 66,600 miles per hour in our annual voyage around the sun)
We are going so many directions at once, and so fast. So, yes, fellow travelers, I know you are busy moving, and I hope your trip is going smooth today.
I am happy to tell you that, on my 14,002nd day of life, my wife and I met our healthy baby boy, and his name is Kirk Temple. At 23 days old, Kirk is charming and talented and suave, and, so far, he can do impressions: of a baby chick pecking for feed, he can sit like a frog watching for a fly, and he can roar like a small dinosaur.
He keeps adding tricks to his act on an almost hourly basis, so it has been an exciting show (though he gets very impatient if the audience goes to sleep during the show).
A few weeks ago, I wrote a new song with Walt Wilkins, thinking about – basically – what it is we get in life: Days.
Here’s a very rough acoustic demo of the new song– I’m gonna delete this and re-record it in a few weeks but just wanted you hear what’s happening so far, and where it is right now…
Also, in a recent flash of sleep deprived wisdom, I understood something that I thought I’d share with you.
I figured out why people do the things they do:
Everybody just gets up in the morning and tries to have the best day they can.
Ok, Wow, right? Pretty deep and pretty shallow at the same time.
Anyway, enough deep/obvious thoughts, you’re busy MOVING. So this week, I’m playing shows in Houston at Mucky Duck on Thursday (tickets here), in La Grange at the Bugle Boy on Friday with Jamie Lin Wilson (tickets here), and then Love & War in Plano on Friday February 13, College Station on Thurs February 26, and Conroe on February 27, then Luckenbach and Gruene … you know, moving around, like you, trying to have the best day I can. And trying to be sure my good day doesn’t get in the way of you having your good day. Or better yet, we can have a good day together. Here’s to that–
Onward, OT
