I like Houston. My family has its roots there. My parents, grandparents, and great grandparents all lived for awhile in Houston and Harris County, so I usually enjoy the time I spend there. All over town are places I could tell you stories about, or places where I heard stories about.
I lived in Houston for about 3 years, and during that time I had a job on the 73rd floor of this building.
I made a lot of good friends and had some great times in Houston. I wrote the songs that I recorded on an album called Right Here and Now when I lived there.
But I did not enjoy the last day I spent in Houston – this past Sunday – because it involved running about 26 miles around town in the rain and cold.
For some reason, I had actually asked to do this, in fact, I had paid to register and do it, and somehow I did it.
It was a humbling and inspiring experience. It is amazing to see what people can do. Of marathon finishers, I personally witnessed a blind man (running with a helper), a woman with a prosthetic foot (Nike Flex-Run) , and a man in his sixties who said it was his 26th Houston Marathon.
Very moving to see and witness.
The next few days and weeks, I will be consuming a large and steady diet of ibuprofen and traveling IN A CAR around to Tomball for a Main Street Crossing show, to the vicinity of Oklahoma City for a gig at Bottle Cap Barn, and to Gruene Hall for a mid-week songswap. (You saw the picture of us at Gruene Hall in the last issue of Texas Highways Magazine, right?)
All right, I hope you are good. I hope you are making progress on whatever challenges you are dealing with and are, at least, getting to be around the places that inspire you.
Cheers
OT
