I hope January is treating you all right-
Things are good here, let me catch you up on what’s been going on.
First of all, my friends The Band of Heathens celebrated their 6th Anniversary a couple months ago, and I sang a couple of songs with them. They’re giving away free downloads of the show here. They played a great show – it’s an excellent live album – and I wanted to pass their gift on to you.
When I was thinking about what else has been going on, I thought about some pictures from the past month and decided I’d just show em to you.
You remember how your crazy uncle would sit everybody down to see his slides from his trip? I guess that’s what this is, except I’ve only got 4 photos, and, odds are, I’m not your uncle.
MusicFest in Steamboat was a very good time. Here’s me, Jason Eady, The Dirty River Boys, Jamie Wilson, Kelley Mickwee, and Liz Foster of The Trishas, John Dickson, Keith Gattis, Mando Saenz, and Cody Braun, pulling off a group version of Hank Williams’ “I Saw the Light”
In January, I made my first batch of homebrewed beer that will be ready in February. It will either taste like mud or a Pale Ale. I will bring a few bottles to shows in February, that is, if it works out tasting like beer…
Can you write songs on a typewriter? Bob Dylan wrote “Like a Rolling Stone” on a typewriter, so I’m using this old school 1960s German made Olympia typewriter I got in December and so far, I haven’t written one to beat Bob’s but I’ve written a couple of good lyrics on it. If you’re interested in seeing lyric manuscripts from Mountain Home, my old notebooks are posted here.
Our son turns 8 years old at the end of the month, and I know he’s gonna make it in the world, or at least in Texas, because this is a book he wants for his birthday.
