“They call it the hill country, I call it beautiful.” I will be thinking of Kent Finlay’s song as I drive west to Poodie’s Hilltop this evening. My first 7 years, our home address was in Mountain Home, Texas. It must have been named by somebody who was homesick for Appalachia, because you’ll find hills there, not mountains, but it is still very beautiful. In Vail, Colorado, where I did this sketch/watercolor, there are, in fact, real mountains.
