What’s the northernmost place you’ve been? It’s Skagway, Alaska for me, where I took these photos. My song ‘Up North’ that’s arriving next week, reflects how – for a Texas guy used to running the AC in winter – the climate in more northern places has always been kind of magical and awe-inducing. I’ve had great days in Alaska, northern Germany, Scotland, Washington, Maine, Montana, Wyoming, Wisconsin, Michigan, Ontario, and British Columbia and this song has moments from of all those places in it for me.

Those northern lights that came south recently- I saw so many incredible photos, I had to try to get that feeling into a watercolor. Probably the hardest thing I’ve tried to paint. I heard this was one of the best years to see them but this painting was as close I got!
I hope the song takes you to your favorite places on these lines of latitude, where you can see remarkable things and the clear cold brings important things into focus.
