"Arkansas Territory / Hempstead county ss - I certify that I did on the 22nd day of September 1825 Join together in a holy State of matrimony according to law, Meriditth W Edwards and Patsy H Props. - John Henry, An ordained minister of the gospel. - Recorded 23rd November 1825. A. M. Oakley Clk" (read on the page image by Owen Temple, 6 Aug 2026; image saved at sources/hempstead-1825-edwards-props-marriage/hempstead-AR-marriage-book-p142-143-EDWARDS-PROPS-22SEP1825-2026-08-06.jpg). ★ SETTLES A DISPUTED DATE. Two published abstracts disagreed: the 1961 Feild compilation of Texarkana pioneer family histories gave 22 September 1825, and the USGenWeb Hempstead County courthouse abstract gave 22 MAY 1825. The original register reads SEPTEMBER, so Feild is correct here and the USGenWeb abstract is a transcription error. ⛔ This vindicates Feild on THIS point only - Feild errs three times in one paragraph against the Rondo gravestones on the Culley parentage, and that remains rejected. ★ The register also corroborates both middle names independently: "Patsy H Props" supports HARPOLE, and "Meriditth W Edwards" supports WALTON. ⛔ CITATION DISCREPANCY, recorded and NOT reconciled: clerk Ray E. McDowell's certificate of 24 Nov 1937 cites this record as "Deeds and Marriage Book 'A' at Page 150." The entry was READ at BOOK PAGE 142. Cause unverified - possibly this volume's second pagination, possibly a slip in the 1937 certificate. Cite page 142, which is what was read.
