Madison County, Tennessee, deed of gift, Catharine McClellan to Benjamin Hayley, registered 5 December 1851. READ ON THE MANUSCRIPT 18 Sep 2026 (FamilySearch $dist render, own palaeography; OCR used only as cross-check). "I Catharine McClellan of the County of Madison and State of Tennessee for the natural love and affection I have & entertain for my grand children Martha E. Hayley and Newton C. Hayley, children of Benjamin and my daughter Martha F. Hayley, I give to the said Martha E. Hayley the sum of two hundred dollars and to Newton C. Hayley the sum of one hundred dollars, that being the amount that I bequeathed to them in my last Will and testament, which sums are placed in the hands of Benjamin Hayley their father, as Trustee, for their use and benefit, to be placed out at interest until they become of age or Marry..." Madison County, Tennessee, family settlement among the heirs and legatees of John McClellan, p. 496, acknowledged 23 March 1841 before James D. McClellan, Clerk. THE HEIRS RECITAL READ ON THE MANUSCRIPT 18 Sep 2026 (the clause below, re-cropped at 2.6x); THE SIGNATURE AND ACKNOWLEDGEMENT BLOCKS ARE FAMILYSEARCH OCR, NOT YET READ ON THE IMAGE. Recital: "...by the said John McClellan Donor, we the above named Heirs and Legatees, Catherine McClellan, William B. Albert G. Samuel C. & James D. McClellan, Benjamin Hayley, and his wife Martha F., John J. A. & Bennet T. McClellan, and Radford Weathers, do agree and bind ourselves, our heirs Executors or administrators and assigns under the penalty of Five Thousand Dollars..." The same instrument recites an "advancement to Radford Weathers and his wife Elizabeth S." Per OCR, the execution block carries the seals of Wm B., A. G., Samuel C., James D., John J. A. and Burnet F. McClellan, then "Benjamin Hayley" and "Martha F Hayley", then Radford Weathers; and the clerk certifies the same persons as "the bargainors".

CATHARINE McCLELLAN of Madison County, Tennessee - spelled Catherine in the 1841 settlement, where she is the first-named of the heirs and legatees of John McClellan (register K704). By a deed of gift registered 5 December 1851 (register K706) she gave money to "my grand children Martha E. Hayley and Newton C. Hayley, children of Benjamin and my daughter Martha F. Hayley". Her maiden name is unknown. No death date is entered.
