Research note · 29 Sep 2026
CREATED 27 Sep 2026 as the FATHER of [217] Mary Ann (Jones) Carpenter, on Owen's ruling of that date. Register K839, K843. His will, signed "John Jones Sr" on 19 July 1833, was proved at the September 1835 Casey County Court, with probate granted to "Ann C Jones, Sandy E Jones, John S Jones & James W Jones" (Casey Co. Will records vol. 1, pp. 196-198; K839). It names his children not yet grown as Bersheba, Melissa, Samuel Coleman and Matilda Johnson, and his sons-in-law John Jones, Charles A. Bailey and Chesley Jones. His wife is not named in it. In 1856 his daughter Mary Ann Carpenter recited that he "departed this life in or about the year 1835 leaving ... as children and heirs ... Samuel C Jones now deceased and Mary Ann Carpenter (late Mary Ann Jones)" (K843). Only what those records state is entered here. Not entered, because no record in this tree states it: a birth date or place, a burial, and the identification with the minister 'John Jones M.G.' who married Mary Ann to Adam Carpenter in 1834 (K545) - likely, but the return gives no more than the name. 29 Sep 2026 - LEADS HELD, NOTHING ENTERED (round-7 triage A3, A5, A6, D3; Owen). Two compilations (TheRestorationMovement.com and Find a Grave) give his birth as 23 Jun 1771, Rowan County, North Carolina; it is not entered until they are shown to be independent. The same compilations make his parents John [Abner] Jones (1742-1824) and Elizabeth Elrod (1751-1843) of Lincoln County, Kentucky; not entered, and the next document is the Lincoln County probate of John Jones, d. 1824. The biography calls him a Christian Church minister, which makes 'John Jones M.G.' of the 1834 return more likely him, but the return still gives only the name. It also mentions a younger brother William Jones (1780-1833), not entered. Dossier: agent-report-3448-john-jones-2026-09-28.md.
