Ten years ago, in August 2013, Hal Ketchum, Walt Wilkins, Jamie Wilson, Corby Schaub, Jason Eady, Courtney Patton, and I were sitting on the porch of a cabin after the first night of the Frio River Song Festival.
A little after midnight, Walt and Hal started playing Stephen Bruton’s song “Too Many Memories,” and Mary Miles Temple filmed the last chorus of the song.
Today, I’m thinking of Hal, our friend and hero, who passed in November 2020. He wrote, sang, and lived from deep in his very big soul. His voice and his spirit are still reverberating with us and will always.
Here’s a song I wrote with Hal called “Red Rocks” that I performed with him at Gruene Hall on September 27, 2013.
My album ‘Rings on a Tree’ is dedicated to the memory of Hal Ketchum.
For this project, I recorded a song that Hal & I wrote together called ‘Churches and Cantinas.’
