The Globe Theater – Bertram, Texas

“It’s clear that our lives are a distillation and expansion of the lives that have come before us,” – Owen Temple

I first met Walt Wilkins in Archer City about 22 years ago at a show we played together at the Royal Theater, the same theater that inspired Larry McMurtry’s novel The Last Picture Show. It was a difficult time, just a few days after 9/11, but in the room that night, there was hope, celebration of beauty, and a healing spirit. (And there was Susan Gibson! also playing the show with us).

Walt & I haven’t played an old theater together since then, but our next show together will be Saturday May 25 at the Globe Theater in Bertram, Texas. The Globe opened in 1935, closed in the 1980s, and reopened in 2016 after a 6 year restoration project that only happened thanks to a lot of love, attention to detail, and community spirit. It’s good to get together in these places that have been cultural centers of art and storytelling for so many years.
