Henry Bass Fowlkes II

AUDITED 5 Aug 2026 - [1260] HENRY BASS FOWLKES, first citation of any kind. He is the orator - the plaintiff - in Library of Virginia Chancery, Lunenburg County, cause 111-1809-004, Fowlkes v. Fowlkes, suing his mother as executrix to compel partition of a tract in Lunenburg devised to him by his father's will. He takes one third; his brothers John B. [1289] and Elisha [1284] take the other two thirds. See [1258]'s note for the full transcription. ⛔ AN UNRESOLVED TENSION, RECORDED RATHER THAN SMOOTHED: the bill says the executrix refused to assign "because the other two devisees were infants", which implies this Henry was NOT an infant, i.e. of age. The tree gives his birth as 4 Oct 1789, making him 19 in November 1808. Either the birth year is a year or two early - it is UNCITED, so entirely possible - or the pleading is loose. The birth field has deliberately NOT been changed on this inference.
