Research note · 6 Aug 2026
AUDITED 6 Aug 2026 - ADDED as the mother of [192] Julia Sterling, [1164] Mary Joseph Sterling and [1165] Sarah F Sterling, replacing her sister [1163] Ellen Lofton Willet in family F420. All dates from her Mount Holly Cemetery gravestone, Little Rock (Find A Grave memorial 105775929, photograph transcribed by Claude 6 Aug 2026): "[IN] MEMORY [OF] / MY SISTER / SARAH WILLETT STERLING / BORN MAY 1[3], 1825 / DIED APRIL 30, 1849 / AGE[D] 24". The day of the month is worn; 13 is Find A Grave's reading. She married Joseph W. Sterling at Little Rock 8 Dec 1842 (Pulaski Co. marriage return, FHL film 1302797, original manuscript), where she is "Miss Sarah W. Willett, aged sixteen" - she was in fact 17 by this stone, one year out. ⛔ HER PARENTS ARE NOT NAMED ON ANY RECORD YET. The stone says "MY SISTER" WITHOUT SAYING WHOSE, and names no parents. That [1816] Simeon Pratt Willett and [1817] Julia Gillam are her parents is an INFERENCE from the word sister, from memorial 7732315 calling Ellen Julia's aunt, and from the 1850 and 1860 censuses placing the orphaned girls with Ellen and with Julia Willett. Do NOT attach her to F548 on that alone - the decisive document would be Simeon Pratt Willett's Pulaski Co. estate distribution (he d. 11 Nov 1843), which would name his daughters. Full account: ancestry/sterling-willett-cates-junction.md; register K126.AUDITED 6 Aug 2026 (later) - MARRIAGE WRITTEN. The 8 Dec 1842 marriage is now a family event on F420, cited to the original manuscript return (Pulaski Co. Marriage Record Part B, pp. B-1/B-2, img 31/511, FHL film 1302797; filed 20 Dec 1842, H. Haralson, Clerk; officiant H. R. K[ern], Methodist Episcopal). ⛔ THE 43-DAY INTERVAL, stated so nobody re-derives it: [192] Julia was born 20 Jan 1843 (Arkansas death certificate no. 1241, agreeing with the 1850 census age 7 and the 1860 census age 16), which is 43 days after this 8 Dec 1842 marriage (the return, FHL film 1302797) - Sarah was about eight months pregnant at the wedding. An observation from the two documents named in this sentence, not a doubt about either.
