INFORMANT: item 14 'Mrs. W. W. McBrayer, Mt.Pleasant Texas' - relationship not stated on the certificate, but she is the decedent's DAUGHTER, Sudie Bell (Barrett) McBrayer: in 1940 Elizabeth lived in her house as mother-in-law of W. W. McBrayer (K956), and Sudie's own 1950 certificate names her parents K. M. Barrett and Tenna Elizabeth Long (K957). AUDITED 8 Oct 2026 - BOTH PARENTS ENTERED: Robert ("Robt", "Bob") Long, born about 1801, and Susan (Hefley) Long, born about 1805 in North Carolina, farmers of District 14, McNairy County, Tennessee. Her parents had been sighted on 22 Aug 2026 and deliberately held back for two reasons; both are answered below. HER DEATH CERTIFICATE. Texas certificate no. 39665, read on the image (register K277): "Mrs. Elizabeth Barrett", widow, born May 4th 1849 in Tennessee, died 27 Aug 1940 at Mt. Pleasant, Titus County, aged 91, buried at Pleasant Hill, Mt. Vernon. Item 10, father "Bob Long"; item 12, mother's maiden name "Miss Susan Heffly"; the informant was "Mrs. W. W. McBrayer" of Mt. Pleasant. THAT SHE IS KENNETH BARRETT'S WIFE, AND WHO GAVE THE NAMES. The 1940 census of Mount Pleasant, read on the image (K956), has Elizabeth Barrett, 90, widowed, born Tennessee, living as "Mother-in-law" in the house of William W. McBrayer and his wife Sadie, 68, born Tennessee, who gave the census answers. Sadie's own death certificate, Texas no. 8760, read on the image (K957), is "Sudie Bell McBrayer", born 15 Nov 1871 in Tennessee, died 4 Feb 1950 at Mt. Pleasant and buried at Pleasant Hill, Mt. Vernon; item 12, father "K. M. Barrett"; item 13, mother's maiden name "Tenna Elizabeth Long". So the woman who died in 1940 is the mother of a daughter of Kenneth M. Barrett and Elizabeth Long, and the informant who named her parents was that daughter, who had lived with her. HER PARENTS' HOUSEHOLD. The 1860 census of District 14, McNairy County, page 289, read on the images (K958), has Robt Long, 59, farmer, born Tennessee, and Susan Long, 55, born North Carolina, with Mary 19, Martha 17, Susan 14 and Elizabeth 12. The 1860 census states no relationships; the sisters' certificates below do. TWO SISTERS SAY THE SAME, EACH THROUGH A DIFFERENT INFORMANT. Mary Duberry, born 25 Dec 1839, died 18 Apr 1926 at Finger, Chester County, Tennessee: certificate no. 8518, read on the image (K960), father "Robt. Long", mother "Susan Hefley", both born N.C.; informant John Duberry. Mrs. Susan Cherry, born 14 Mar 1846, died 14 Apr 1922 in Chester County: certificate no. 3298, read on the image (K959), father "Robt Long", mother "Susan Hefley"; informant J. M. Cherry. Their ages fit the Mary 19 and Susan 14 of the 1860 household, and both were buried at the Estes burial ground. Three informants in two states, between 1922 and 1940, give the same couple. CONFLICTS AND WHAT IS NOT CLAIMED. The mother's surname is written Heffly (1940) and Hefley (1922, 1926). The parents' birthplaces disagree: 1860 census Tennessee and North Carolina; Mary's certificate N.C. and N.C.; Susan's Mississippi and Mississippi; Elizabeth's Tennessee and Tennessee. Jane Elliot, 35, and seven Elliot children follow the Longs in 1860 with no new dwelling number; no relationship is claimed. The 1850 census has not been read. Online trees give Robert Long 1799-1866; those dates are not adopted. Sudie's certificate calls her mother "Tenna Elizabeth"; her name in this tree is not changed. AUDITED 22 Aug 2026 — SHE HAS A SURNAME AT LAST: LONG. She entered this tree that same morning as a bare forename, and 'Long' was DELIBERATELY WITHHELD then because it was unsourced. It is no longer unsourced. ★ THE DECIDING RECORD IS CONTEMPORANEOUS AND FIRST-ORDER (register K276, read on the image): 'STATE OF TENNESSEE, McNAIRY COUNTY. MARRIAGE LICENSE' — KENNETH BARRETT x ELIZABETH LONG, licence 20 Feb, solemnised 22 Feb 1871. 'Long' appears FOUR TIMES on the sheet. This is her own surname, at her own marriage, written in 1871 — not an informant recalling a maiden name decades later. ★★ AND THIS TREE'S OWN DATA CORROBORATES IT TWICE, WHICH IS WHAT LIFTS IT ABOVE ONE RECORD: · Her existing citation C7117 (1900 census) reads 'Kenneth M Barrett, Head, b. Oct 1850 Tennessee, MARRIED 28 YRS | Elizabeth, Wife, b. May 1850'. 1900 minus 28 = 1872, against a 22 Feb 1871 licence — a census-rounded match, and it is INDEPENDENT of the licence. · Her daughter [128]'s Audited note E9225 had already PREDICTED a Tennessee origin for her, from the 1920 census recording [128]'s mother as Tennessee-born. The marriage is in Tennessee. The prediction paid. TWO LATER INFORMANT RECORDS AGREE and are recorded as corroboration only, being weaker: her daughter [128]'s own 1967 death certificate, item 14 'Elizabeth Long' (K275), and another daughter Daisey Dean Hightower's 1974 certificate, item 14 (K278, informant a GRANDSON).
