PROOF CLASS: FATHER = DIRECT (Owen, 1 Oct 2026) - his 1928 Texas death certificate, item 10, names his father "Andrew Jackson Barrett". Register K942.
PROOF CLASS: MOTHER = DIRECT (Owen, 1 Oct 2026) - his 1928 Texas death certificate, item 12, gives his mother's maiden name "Eliza McKinzey". Register K942.
INFORMANT: item 14 'J R Nelson, Mt Vernon, Tx' - relationship to him not stated; he also gave both parents' birthplaces as Tennessee, which the 1850 census (their own entries) and the 1900 census (his own answer) both give as North Carolina. Settler: who J. R. Nelson was (a son-in-law would be family), or a brother's death certificate.
AUDITED 1 Oct 2026 - BOTH PARENTS ENTERED: Andrew Jackson Barrett and Eliza (McKinzey) Barrett, of District 4, McNairy County, Tennessee. He died 15 May 1928 at Purley, Franklin County, Texas, a farmer, aged 77 years 8 months 8 days, and was buried at Pleasant Hill the next day.
HIS DEATH CERTIFICATE. Texas certificate no. 21163, read on the image 1 Oct 2026 (register K942): "K M Barrett", born Tennessee; item 10, father "Andrew Jackson Barrett"; item 12, mother's maiden name "Eliza McKinzey". The age, 77 years 8 months 8 days, puts his birth about 7 Sep 1850.
THAT HE IS THE McNAIRY COUNTY BOY. The 1860 census of District 4, McNairy County, read on the image (K944), has "Kenneth M", 9, in the household of Eliza J Barrett, 34, born N.C., who holds real estate of $500 in her own name, with William A 12, Margaret J 7, Samuel M 3 and Andrew J 6/12, and no adult man. In 1870, same district (index, K945), Kenith M, 19, lives with Andenan 22, Margarett E 16, Gamme M 13 and Andrew J 10. He married Elizabeth Long in McNairy County on 22 Feb 1871 (read on the image, Aug 2026), and by 1880 the couple were in Franklin County, Texas.
HIS FATHER. The 1850 census of the same district, read on the image (K943), has dwelling 1037: "Jackson Barett", 30, farmer, born N.C., with "Liza", 23, born N.C., and Anderson, 2 - the William A. of 1860 and the Andenan of 1870. Kenneth, born about September 1850, came after the census day. By 1860 the father is gone from the household and the youngest son, born about December 1859, is Andrew J. Whether Andrew Jackson died or was only away in 1860 is not established.
HIS MOTHER'S MAIDEN NAME rests on the certificate alone. A McKinzie household - Elizabeth, 51, born N.C., with Colin 27 and Daniel 22 - stood three dwellings from Jackson and Liza in the 1850 census (K943); that is a lead to her family, not proof of it.
CONFLICTS, NOT CHANGED. His birth year: 1841 in this tree and the 1910 census, Oct 1850 in the 1900 census, about 1850-51 in 1860, 1870 and the certificate. His parents' birthplaces: Tennessee on the certificate, North Carolina in the 1850 and 1900 censuses. NOT ESTABLISHED: that Nathan Barett (69 in 1850, 81 in 1860), who lived next door in both years, was Andrew Jackson's father.
