Research note · 5 Aug 2026
AUDITED 4 Aug 2026 - HIS PLACEMENT IN F180 IS CONTRADICTED BY THE 1926 DEATH CERTIFICATE THE TREE'S DEATH DATE MATCHES. Texas death cert (Travis, 1926 Oct-Dec image 120/252, Reg. 39086, record 30290964, read on the image, register L2): William P. Morgan, b. 1 Mar 1869 Texas, widowed, laborer, d. 23 Nov 1926 Austin - but father 'J. M. Morgan' born TEXAS and mother 'Canthie (Cinthie?) Collier' born ALABAMA, against this tree's John Thomas Morgan (b. South Carolina) x Cornelia Cynthia Pamela Carter (b. Arkansas). Yet the informant is 'B. E. Morgan' (cf. brother [1168] Bennie Edward) and burial is Boggy Cemetery, the family ground. EITHER this cert is not our [349] (and the tree borrowed its death date from the wrong record), or the informant misreported all four fields. DELIBERATELY NOT CITED to this person; the discriminating record is the June 1880 census household. Evidence images: sources/txdc-1926-morgan-william-p-30290964-*. --- APPENDED 5 Aug 2026 - CONFLICT NOTE, and Owen ruled the 1926 certificate is NOT to be cited here. The Texas death certificate of WILLIAM P. MORGAN, Austin, d. 23 Nov 1926 (Travis 1926, reg. 39086), was read on the image. The tree identifies this man as [349]. The certificate CONTRADICTS that placement on all four parent fields: it gives father "J. M. Morgan" born TEXAS and mother "Canthie (Cinthie?) Collier" born ALABAMA, against the tree's [295] John T. Morgan born South Carolina and [348] born Arkansas, surname Carter. Yet the informant is "B. E. Morgan" of Austin, matching brother [1168] Bennie Edward Morgan, and the burial is Boggy Cemetery, the family ground. ⛔ EITHER [349] IS MIS-IDENTIFIED WITH THIS CERTIFICATE - in which case the tree's death date of 23 Nov 1926, which matches it, is ALSO borrowed from the wrong record - OR the informant misreported his own parents. Not resolved. Owen ruled 5 Aug 2026 that the certificate is NOT to be cited to family F180, so that a contradiction is not hardened into a source. Next test: re-read the 1880 Travis Co. census household by enumeration-district browse (the name index is exhausted - six angles, three index corruptions: Mongan, Cartar, Neally).
