PROOF CLASS: MOTHER = ARGUMENT (Owen, 27 Sep 2026) - her son's 1832 baptism at St. John's, Washington names 'Grandmother, Margaret Lyons'; his father's mother was Sarah Sharpless, so Margaret is Anna's mother (K848). Father unknown. AUDITED 27 Sep 2026 - HER MOTHER IS MARGARET LYONS. Register K848. THE RECORD. The baptism register of St. John's Church, St. John's Parish, Washington (William Hawley, rector), read on the images of the DAR typescript copy, enters three of her children in one bracket - Lucretia Hart b. 21 Apr 1828, Anna Louisa b. 29 Sep 1830, Henry Clay b. 13 Jan 1832 - "Parents: William S. and Ann Derrick / Baptised: November 14, 1832 / Sponsors: Mother and Grandmother, Margaret Lyons". In 1842 the same register baptises Georgine Montgomery b. 5 Jul 1841, "Parents: William and Ann P. Derrick ... Sponsors: the Mother and Aunt Margaretta Lyons". THE ARGUMENT. The register calls Margaret Lyons the children's GRANDMOTHER but not on which side. Their father's mother was Sarah Sharpless, wife of Philip Derrick ([516]; Cope 1887, graded 8 Sep 2026), so the only grandmother Margaret Lyons can be is their mother's mother - Anna's mother. The children match this family exactly: Anna Louisa's birth date is the tree's to the day, and 'Ann P.' is the 'Ann Patterson Derrick' of her husband's 1852 will (K334). Class ARGUMENT, not DIRECT, because the side rests on that elimination. The 1842 'Aunt Margaretta Lyons' is the 'Margaretta Lyons, 30, b. Pennsylvania' in the 1850 household (K223) - her sister. LIMITS. The copy is a typescript, not the register (the original is St. John's Church, Lafayette Square). It gives Lucretia's birth as 1828 where Cope has 1829 - recorded, not resolved. HER FATHER IS NOT NAMED, and 'Lyons' is her mother's married name. 'Patterson' as Anna's own middle name is settled by the 1852 will (K334); as a MAIDEN NAME for her mother it is a search key only, never corroboration. No research-lane row existed for her before 19 Sep 2026, so no earlier prohibitions were recorded - which is not the same as none applying. AUDITED 19 Aug 2026 - THE 'SUSPICIOUS' 1880 HALIFAX CITATION IS CORRECT, NOT A MIS-ATTACH (register K228): she is 'Derrick, Anna, 70, MOTHER, widowed, b. Penn.' in the household of her son [511] Henry Clay Derrick, 48, Civil Engineer, b. Dist. of Columbia - 1880 census, Village of Halifax C.H., Halifax Co., Va., ED 112, dw 347/fam 352, img 4244620-00042, read on the manuscript. Her row states HER OWN parents' birthplaces for the first time in any record this tree holds: FATHER b. PENNSYLVANIA, MOTHER b. PENNSYLVANIA - joining the 1850 D.C. household's 'Margaretta Lyons, 30, b. Pennsylvania' (register K223), so the Lyons parent hunt belongs in Pennsylvania series. The relationship column evidences Anna-to-[511] (mother of the head), NOT the [105] Josephine link; F253 unaffected by this read. Henry's own row gives father b. Penn. (matches [507]'s Pennsylvania birth, Cope 1887 p. 423 line). Age 70 against b. 27 Sep 1807 (=72) is informant rounding, recorded. This 1880 residence with her son also explains the 20 Dec 1892 death at Charlottesville, Albemarle Co. (E2137): her widowhood was spent with Virginia family, not in Washington City.
