READ ON THE IMAGE, EVERY FIELD, 7 Sep 2026 (register K508). Arizona State Board of Health, ORIGINAL CERTIFICATE OF DEATH; place of death county Cochise, town Bisbee; State Index 118A; County Registered No. 286. FULL NAME John B. Bond; male, white, married; DATE OF BIRTH Nov. 23 1837; AGE 77 yrs 7 mos 13 days; OCCUPATION Physician and Surgeon; BIRTHPLACE Pa.; NAME OF FATHER "Richard J. Bond"; BIRTHPLACE OF FATHER Pa.; MAIDEN NAME OF MOTHER "Anna Thompson"; BIRTHPLACE OF MOTHER Pa.; informant "Mrs. H. S. H[ollis]", address Warren - his own daughter [285]; DATE OF DEATH July 16 1915, attended 1-16 July, death at 1 p.m.; cause entero-colitis, contributory senility; signed O. B. Patton, Bisbee; place/date of burial or removal 7-19; undertaker W. H. Hubbard, Bisbee; filed Aug 23 1915 (local registrar) and Aug 25 1915 (county registrar). BOTH PARENTS' BIRTHPLACES ARE GIVEN AS Pa. AND BOTH ARE WRONG - the 1900 census gives father Maryland, mother Virginia. The middle initial in "Richard _. Bond" was calibrated against the T of "Thompson" and the J of "John" on the same page and is read J; recorded as uncertain.

Research notes

Working notes from the research, kept verbatim — what was read, what it proved, what stays open. Many open with a line grading the parentage; what the grades mean.

Research note · 7 Sep 2026
PROOF CLASS: FATHER = ARGUMENT (Owen, 7 Sep 2026) - her unsigned 1868 obituary names "Richard and Sarah Thomson"; the 1798 Westmoreland bond is the only Richard x a Sarah in that abstract. MOTHER = ARGUMENT (Owen, 7 Sep 2026) - same pair. K516. AUDITED 5 Sep 2026 - NOTE CREATED, NO NEW RESEARCH. She carried ProofFather=1 / ProofMother=1 with NO Audited event. Unlike [70] and [195], reviewed in the same batch, her flags are NOT reachable from what has been read. The flag is left exactly where it was (Owen, 4 Sep: label only) - this note records what the basis actually is, it does not demote anything. WHAT IS ACTUALLY READ - St. Louis Christian Advocate, 22 July 1868, p. 8, obituary, read on the page image 5-6 Aug 2026 (register K161; image sources/bond-eliza-ann-obituary-christian-advocate-1868-07-22-p8-RENDER.png): "BOND.-Mrs. Eliza Ann Bond, daughter of Richard and Sarah Thomson, was born in Westmoreland county, Va., June 17, 1806." Birth date and county match this tree. WHY THAT IS NOT YET DIRECT OR ARGUMENT - the notice is UNSIGNED, so it is ONE INFORMANT and a published narrative rather than a record; K161 itself says to grade it testimony. And the two particulars that agree with the tree - 17 Jun 1806, Westmoreland Co. - cannot be counted as corroboration until it is shown the tree did not take them FROM this obituary. ⭐ THE CHEAPEST UPGRADE, AND IT IS ALREADY CITED ON THE FAMILY: "Westmoreland County, Virginia, marriage records, 1798" hangs on F327 with ActualText EMPTY - cited, never opened. If it shows Richard Thompson marrying Sarah Yeatman in Westmoreland Co. in 1798, that is an independent second record placing the couple in the right county eight years before her birth there, and the pair of them is an ARGUMENT under proof-standard.md 2b. A SEPARATE CLAIM, NOT PROVEN HERE - the obituary says "Sarah Thomson", her MARRIED name, and never "Yeatman". [759]'s maiden name still rests solely on the 1798 consent clause. Two different claims; this note is about the parentage only. ⚠️ CITE THE IMAGE, NOT THE OCR - the OCR of this notice inserts a spurious middle initial ("Sarah S") that the printed page does not carry. AUDITED 7 Sep 2026 - HER SON'S DEATH CERTIFICATE NAMES HER, AND IT WAS ALREADY CITED ON HER. Register K508. Cit 4397 on this person is the 1915 Arizona death certificate of her son [191] Dr John Barnitz Bond (Cochise Co., Bisbee, State Index 118A, County Registered No. 286; image 013_10132433-02401). It carried empty ActualText and no media row, the register had no row for it, and it had never been opened. IT STATES "MAIDEN NAME OF MOTHER: Anna Thompson", birthplace of mother "Pa." The surname is exact; the given name is the second element of hers; and the birthplace is WRONG - her son's own 1900 census return gives his mother's birthplace as VIRGINIA and his 1910 return repeats it (registers K510 and K511), which is what this tree holds. Owen graded [191]'s mother half on that record on 7 Sep 2026. ALSO OPENED THE SAME DAY (register K509) - the 1850 U.S. Census, District 61, Montgomery Co., Missouri, dwelling and family 272, has her as "Eliza, 43, b. Va." in Richard Bond's household, with five children whose ages and birthplaces match [803] [191] [802] [804] [760] exactly and in birth order. She is exactly 43 on the census date of 1 June 1850, turning 44 on 17 June, so the written age matches a birth of 17 Jun 1806 precisely. THREE FORMS OF HER NAME ARE NOW IN HAND AND NONE IS NORMALISED: the census writes "Eliza", the 1868 obituary "Eliza Ann Bond", the 1915 certificate "Anna". NONE OF THIS UPGRADES THIS NOTE, AND THE DISTINCTION IS THE WHOLE POINT - everything above is evidence about her CHILDREN, not about her PARENTS. Her own parentage still rests on the unsigned 1868 obituary, and the cheapest upgrade is still the 1798 Westmoreland marriage named above, which remains cited on F327 with ActualText empty. AUDITED 7 Sep 2026 (evening) - GRADED. Both halves move from the pre-standard UNDERDETERMINED label to ARGUMENT (Owen, 7 Sep 2026). Neither flag moves; both were already 1. Working paper: proof-summary-757-thompson-2026-09-07.md. Registers K96, K161, K508, K509, K516. ⭐ THE UPGRADE THE 5 Sep PARAGRAPHS ABOVE NAME WAS ALREADY SPENT WHEN THEY WERE WRITTEN, AND THIS SUPERSEDES THEM. The 1798 Westmoreland marriage was read on 6 Aug 2026 (K96a) - a month earlier - together with two printed sketches naming the same couple (K96b). The read was filed under Sarah Yeatman's OWN father, a generation-7 hunt, so K96's register block names [758] four times and [759] twice and [757] NOT ONCE. Same shape as K508: the deciding read sat on the PARENTS, where this person's own worklist never shows it. WHAT THE 1798 RECORD SAYS (K96a) - Westmoreland Co., Va., Early Marriages, a USGenWeb abstract retrieved via the Wayback Machine (sources/ARTIFACT-usgwarchives-westmoreland-va-EARLY-MARRIAGES-marr001-WAYBACK-2026-08-06.txt, 1,815 lines), lines 646-647: "June 25, 1798, Richard Thompson and Sally Yeatman, / Thos. Yeatman, her father, gives his consent." It matches F327's marriage date TO THE DAY and is the source F327 had been asserting with nothing behind it. Provenance distance: a transcript of an abstract of a bond, no named contributor. TWO PRINTED SKETCHES NAME THE COUPLE INDEPENDENTLY (K96b) - the 1883 History of Howard and Cooper Cos., Mo., p. 930, on Richard R. Thompson (b. Warrenton, Va., 13 Mar 1817): "his father, whose name was also Richard, and his mother, whose maiden name was Sallie Yeatman"; and the 1882 History of Pettis Co., Mo., pp. 741-742, on Capt. A. H. Thompson (b. Warrenton, Va., 24 May 1822). Different books, different sons, different Missouri counties. The 1883 sketch was verified digit-for-digit against two independently scanned library copies. THE MIGRATION PATH MATCHES HERS AT THREE STAGES, and it was reconstructed in August for a different question (K96c): Westmoreland (the 1798 marriage; her 1806 birth) -> WARRENTON, Fauquier Co. (their sons born there 1817 and 1822; HER OWN MARRIAGE THERE, 17 Nov 1829 - K69, K95) -> Missouri ([759] d. Boonville, Cooper Co., 28 Jun 1868; [757] d. Danville, Montgomery Co., 12 Jul 1868 - fourteen days later, the obituary ten days after that). ⭐ THE FORECLOSURE, MEASURED 7 Sep 2026 (register K516) - a same-name sweep of the whole 1,815-line abstract finds ELEVEN Thompson/Thomson marriages and EXACTLY ONE joining a Richard Thompson to a Sarah or Sally: line 646, this one. The documented same-name hazard - a second Richard Thompson marrying in the same county on 23 Mar 1796 - took a different bride, Jane Nelson. Controls fired: Yeatman 15, consent 376, Sarah 55, Sally 76, and a nonsense string 0. ⚠️ SCOPE: this abstract, coverage 1786-1824. It is a transcript, not the bond books; a couple absent from it is not thereby absent from Westmoreland. THE CIRCULARITY THE 5 Sep PARAGRAPH ASKED ABOUT, ANSWERED - her birth fact E2719 (17 Jun 1806, Westmoreland Co.) carries ZERO citations, so its provenance is unknown and may descend from this same obituary. The birth date and county are therefore counted as corroboration NOWHERE in this grade. What survives independently is the 1850 census above: an enumerator wrote her age as 43 and her birthplace as Va., sixty-two years before the notice. WHY ARGUMENT AND NOT DIRECT - no record read by this project STATES the relationship except the unsigned 1868 obituary, which is testimony. But it does not stand alone: an independent record puts the named couple, married, in the named county eight years before her birth there; two further sketches confirm the couple and the maiden name from a different corpus and a different generation of informants; the migration matches at every stage; an 1850 enumerator independently supports the birth year; and no competing Richard-and-Sarah couple exists in the only Westmoreland marriage abstract in hand. ⚠️ THE MOTHER'S SURNAME IS A WEAKER CLAIM THAN HER IDENTITY (proof-standard.md 2c, K495). The obituary gives "Sarah Thomson", a married name. "Yeatman" rests on the 1798 consent clause and the two 1880s sketches. If the abstract entry falls, the mother's IDENTITY survives on the obituary and the sketches; her MAIDEN NAME does not. ⚠️ TWO DISAGREEMENTS WITH THE 1883 BOOK, NEITHER BEARING ON PARENTAGE - [758]'s birth day, tree 29 Jul 1776 against the book's 17 Jul 1776, UNRESOLVED (the book's own "died at the age of sixty-eight" fails for both dates, so it cannot arbitrate); and the marriage date, book 27 June against the abstract's and the tree's 25 June, where the tree was right and the printed book was the outlier. WHAT WOULD OVERTURN THIS - a second Richard Thompson and Sarah couple documented in Westmoreland Co. between 1798 and 1806, or a reading of Nottingham's published Westmoreland County Marriage Bonds, or of the bond image itself, that contradicts the 25 June 1798 abstract entry. ⚠️ [3402] Thomas Yeatman, named by the consent clause as [759]'s father, is NOT admitted by this grade and stays 0/0. K96 directs that the abstract be verified against Nottingham or the bond image before a NEW ANCESTOR rests on it.
