Research note · 24 Jul 2026
Audited 24 Jul 2026, REVISED 30 Jul 2026 - this note supersedes the 24 Jul text, which was stored truncated at exactly 256 characters and broke off mid-phrase. Junction #2, Saint-Domingue. Her marriage act was read in the original register: ANOM Cayes du Fond 1791, view 16 of 45; local image ancestry/sources/anom-cayes-du-fond-1791-plunkett-gentillot-marriage-view16.png. She married 4 May 1791 at Notre-Dame de l'Assomption des Cayes du Fond to Jean Francois Achille Plunkett, with a dispensation from R.P. Viriot, vice-prefet apostolique, from the impediment "du second au troisieme degre de consanguinite en ligne collaterale" (letters of 27 Apr 1791) - first cousins once removed. The act calls her "damoiselle Renee Rose Gentillot, native et habitante de notre paroisse", which CONFIRMS she was born in the Cayes-du-Fond parish, and "fille legitime de Sieur Jean Desire Gentillot, avocat en parlement, habitant notre paroisse, et de dame Margueritte Genevieve Le Febure, ses pere et mere". She was "mineure d'age" (under 25, consistent with the tree's 1 Oct 1770 birth) and proceeded "sous l'authorisation de ses dits pere et mere". TWO CONSEQUENCES. (a) BOTH her parents were alive on 4 May 1791, which is the evidence that split her mother [3328] Marguerite Genevieve Lefebvre des Hayes out of the merged record and dated her death "aft 4 May 1791". (b) Her father is Jean Desire Gentillot, avocat en parlement, exactly as the tree had it - GHC 2013 art.23 calls him "Jean Michel Gentilot", and here the primary act corrects GHC rather than the tree. Signatories include Renee Roze Gentillot, J.n Francois Plunkett, Gentilot (the father), Lefeburegentilot (the mother), delagautraye, Lafresseliere and Lafresseliere jeune, Gentilot de Lafresseliere, Simon, Furmon, Duvau and Marrand. NOT FOUND, recorded as a negative so nobody re-hunts it: her own baptism. Les Cayes 1770 (Oct to Dec) and Torbeck Oct 1770 were both scanned without result; a delayed baptism in a later register is likely, and it is no longer needed now that the marriage act proves her parentage.
