Research note · 3 Sep 2026
AUDITED 3 Sep 2026 - NANCY FOULKES, added to family F443 today as a daughter of [1258] Henry Bass Fowlkes and [1259] Tabitha Bass, on the evidence of her father's own will. THE DOCUMENT: the will of Henry Foulkes Sen.r, Nottoway County, Virginia, Will Book 2 pages 441-444, written 27 Apr 1808, proved 1 Sep 1808. FamilySearch arks 3:1:3QS7-99PX-6469 and 3:1:3QS7-99PX-64D9. Register K415. She is named ON THE IMAGE, in the same sentence as two daughters already in this tree: 'my daughters Martha Foulkes, Nancy Foulkes and Tabitha H Foulkes'. Read by eye on the manuscript, page 443. no-entry DO NOT MERGE HER WITH [2381] NANCY FOWLKES BETTS. Ancestry will very likely offer that merge after the next push. [2381] is a DIFFERENT WOMAN ONE GENERATION EARLIER: she sits in family F626 as a daughter of [2276] John Anthony Fowlkes - that is, Henry's own SISTER - and she DIED 22 Apr 1804, four years before this will was written. Two Nancys in the same stem, one generation apart. Refuse the merge. no-entry She is also distinct from the GRANDDAUGHTER Nancy Elizabeth Crenshaw named in Tabitha Fowlkes's 1825 will (register K412), who takes per stirpes in place of her mother Elizabeth. star WHY SHE MATTERS BEYOND HERSELF: the will's eleven children and RM family F443's eleven children agree on TEN names. Nancy is the will's eleventh and [1256] Edward Bass Fowlkes is the tree's - a one-for-one substitution. Adding her is the other half of the finding recorded on [1256]'s note. NOTHING ELSE IS KNOWN OF HER from this document: no birth date, no death, no marriage, no age, no order among the daughters. The will names her and nothing more. Her proof flag is left at 0 - Owen approved the ADD, not a grade.
