Research note · 27 Jul 2026
Audited 27 Jul 2026 - post-1850 spine, Phase 2 grading (ancestry/post-1850-plan.md). Parents were already attached here; this note records the record that EVIDENCES them, and ProofFather/ProofMother have been set to Proven.1870 U.S. Census, RED RIVER, LAFAYETTE CO., ARKANSAS, dwelling 289 (Ancestry coll. 7163 rec. 491375; NARA M593_57 p. 184B). Household as indexed: Emma Edwards 15 - Louis Edwards 12 - HARRIET EDWARDS 10 - John Edwards 6 - Adams Ower 26 - Mary Steel 14 - Gabriel Steel 12 - T J Edwards 43 - Helen Edwards 33. Matches the attached parents Thomas Jefferson Edwards and Hellen Mar Cully.WEAKEST OF THE THREE - FLAGGED. This dwelling is MIXED: it contains three non-Edwards people (Adams Ower and the two Steel children), and the two adults are listed at the END of the dwelling rather than at its head. The four Edwards children group clearly on ages and surname, but if this link is ever challenged THIS is the one of the three pre-1880 gradings to re-read from the image first.** EVIDENCE BASIS: the 1860 and 1870 censuses record NO relationship column. This grading rests on household composition, ages and dwelling number as indexed - not on a stated relationship. That is a weaker instrument than a post-1880 census and is recorded here so the basis is never overstated. **
