MOTHER'S FIELD IS UNUSABLE - the clerk entered 'Morgan', her MARRIED surname, in the box asking for her MAIDEN name, and the informant was her husband's brother Jno S. Johnson, not a child. Matches the attached parents John Thomas Morgan and Cornelia Cynthia Pamela Carter. ProofFather was already set; this batch sets ProofMother, which had been left ungraded only because the mother [348] was the subject of the Junction #9 work. ** EVIDENCE BASIS: an explicit 'Relation to Head of House' column, plus household composition. ** --- Audited 7 Sep 2026 - the MOTHER half graded ARGUMENT by Owen, and graded on DIFFERENT EVIDENCE than the draft it replaces. Registers K503 and K504. WHAT WAS WITHDRAWN, AND WHY. An earlier draft of this grade rested on birthplace: her own mother's-birthplace column in the 1880 census (Ancestry coll. 6742 rec. 7301735, image 4244801-00028) reads 'Ark', matching the wife in the household and not the head, and [348] was recorded born in Arkansas. THAT ARGUMENT IS CIRCULAR AND HAS BEEN DROPPED. [348]'s birth fact carried exactly two citations - that same 1880 census, and her 1937 Texas death certificate, file no. 47957 (Ancestry coll. 2272, image 40394_b062135-00265). The certificate was read in full on 7 Sep 2026 and gives birthplace 'Miss.', not Arkansas. So the 'Arkansas' the 1880 column was being matched against had itself come from the 1880 census - matching the record against itself. WHAT THE GRADE RESTS ON INSTEAD. 1900 U.S. Census, Justice Precinct 1, Travis Co., Texas, ED 0108, sheet 8, dwelling 127 family 134, roll 1673, image 4118572_00614, read on the image 7 Sep 2026 in ONE FRAME spanning the printed column headers through Mother's Birthplace, so the row mapping is anchored at the head of the table. Columns read: line, dwelling, family, name, relation to head, race, sex, birth month, birth year, age, marital status, years married, children born, children living, birthplace, father's birthplace, mother's birthplace. Occupation, literacy and tenure were NOT read. (a) YEARS MARRIED = 31 in that census, on both spouses' lines, so John Morgan and Cynthia C. married about 1869. She was born 26 May 1873, four years inside that marriage, which runs unbroken to 1900. The census does not state the relationship; it FORECLOSES THE ALTERNATIVE - there was no other Mrs. John Morgan at the date of this birth. (b) MOTHER OF 6 CHILDREN, 5 LIVING, on the wife's line of the same census. The tree holds six children for F154, [295] x [348] - Wm. b. about 1869, Flora b. 1873, Nora b. 1875 d. 1878, William M b. 1880, John Thomas b. 1883, Bennie Edward b. 1890 - with exactly one, Nora, dead before 1900. Six and five, exact. The four surviving sons are all four enumerated in that 1900 household, so the count closes only if the fifth living child is Flora. (c) HOUSEHOLD CONTINUITY across the two censuses, established without reference to the wife at all: the 'Wm. Morgan, 11' of the 1880 household is the 'Pink, b. Mar 1870' of the 1900 household, same head, same county. THE FATHER HALF IS UNAFFECTED and remains DIRECT off field 10 of her own 1919 death certificate, Travis Co., B.O.V.S. 8439, image 33154_B061853-02537. CONFLICTS RECORDED RATHER THAN SMOOTHED. (i) Her own 1900 and 1910 census lines both give her mother's birthplace as Texas, against the Mississippi her parents' own 1900 household reports; she misreported it twice, which impeaches her nativity columns and says nothing about who bore her. (ii) The 1880 census says Arkansas for the same woman the 1900 census and the 1937 certificate call Mississippi. (iii) Ages in this family are soft in both directions: the head is 29 in the 1880 census and 47 in the 1900 census against a certificate birth of 19 Jan 1847; the wife is 27 in 1880 and 44 in 1900 against a certificate birth of 25 Apr 1848. THE 'YEARS MARRIED' FIGURE IS SELF-REPORTED BY THOSE SAME TWO PEOPLE AND INHERITS THAT SOFTNESS. It is the load-bearing member of (a) above and it is not a documentary marriage date. (iv) The tree records the marriage of [295] x [348] as 8 Dec 1867 in Travis Co., which the 1900 census's 1869 does not match; both precede the 1873 birth, so the argument survives either way, and this note does not claim the two agree. WHY ARGUMENT AND NOT DIRECT: no record names her mother. The 1880 relation column says 'Daughter' of the HEAD, which states paternity only, and the 1919 certificate's mother field carries her married surname in the box asking for a maiden name.
