This is a DELAYED certificate: no birth was registered in 1918, and the record was created thirty-six years later on an affidavit sworn in Dallas County, Texas, on 5 Sep 1954 by the mother herself ("I am related to this child as Mother ... my present age is 65 years"), signed "Mrs. James Franklin Jarrell" and, over the notary seal, "Mrs. Annie Belle Jarrell"; filed by the State Registrar 15 Sep 1954. The face carries NO abstract of documentary evidence, and the copy supplied is one page, front only. So the statement of parentage is the mother's own sworn statement about her own child - a participant speaking of herself and her husband, not hearsay - but it is a 1954 statement and not a 1918 registration, and the grade is given knowing that. WHAT THE RECORD SAYS AGAINST THE TREE - every field agrees, and the year digit is settled by arithmetic rather than by eye. The last digit of "1918" is a looped 8 that a fast reading can take for a 4 or a 5; the mother's stated age at the birth (29 yrs) and her stated present age on 5 Sep 1954 (65 years) both put her own birth in 1889, which is the tree's 19 Jan 1889 (E597, register K257), and the 1920 census (E119, C104) already has this child aged 1 in the Mulberry household - so 1918 is the only year the certificate's own figures allow. Father aged 29 yrs: [135] b. 31 Oct 1888 (E587) was 29 on 22 Apr 1918. Father born Mississippi: [135] b. Carriere, Pearl River Co., Miss. (E587; register K263, his 1972 Texas death certificate). Mother born Georgia: [136] b. Jefferson Co., Ga. (E597; register K257, her 1978 Texas death certificate). Both parents living at Mulberry, Ark.: the 1920 census places the household there (E596, E605). Item 11, "Annie Belle Watkins", is the mother's OWN sworn statement of her maiden name, and it stands independently behind the correction of 22 Aug 2026 (register K257) that [136] was a Watkins of Georgia and not a Jarriel. Item 16, "One (1)", makes Hazel the first child of the marriage (F87, 25 Dec 1916). The place of birth, carried here until now only as "Arkansas, USA" from the 1920 census, is stated on a state record as Mulberry, Crawford County; her 2006 obituary already gave Mulberry (register K287). Nothing about the parents' own parentage: [135]'s rests on his 1972 Texas death certificate (K263) and [136]'s on her 1978 Texas death certificate (K257), and neither is touched here. The 1920 census citation's "abt 1919" birth (C104) is the enumerator's age arithmetic and is superseded by this record's exact date. The reverse of the form, if any, and the ADH cover sheet were not scanned; if a reverse exists it should be added to the source folder.
