Hanna Bessie Elizabeth Alexander

1883 In July 1883 the Garnett Journal-Plaindealer printed the roll of honor for School District No. 29 in Anderson County, and "Bessie Alexander" was on it, listed after her sisters Minnie and Maggie. The term ran from 9 April to 7 July; 61 pupils were enrolled, and the average daily attendance was 44.

1911 Her last two children came when she was forty and forty-one, while the family lived east of Dodge City. In January 1911 the Dodge City Kansas Journal recorded Bessie Georgia's birth "to Mr. and Mrs. Geo. West, six miles east of Dodge," and in May 1912 it recorded Carroll Earl's birth "near Fort Dodge."

1937 In Houston she belonged to the Woman's Missionary Society of Woodland Methodist Church. In August 1937 the Houston Post announced that at its meeting "the devotional will be led by Mrs. G. W. West," and in January 1938 it named her co-hostess of the Friendship circle. Her death notice said she "was a member of the Woodlawn Methodist Church."

1938 In February 1938, a month after she was widowed, she went north to visit her daughter Edith in Leavenworth, Kansas, and a sister at Garnett. On Sunday, 3 April, the car she and Edith were riding in "overturned in a ditch" near Springfield, Missouri, and the Associated Press reported that her "left wrist was broken and her back wrenched."

1939 When she died in Houston in May 1939, aged 68, she was survived by four daughters, four sons, four sisters in Colorado and Kansas, 16 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. The notice said she "had been a resident of Houston for the past seven years."
