Research notes
Working notes from the research, kept verbatim — what was read, what it proved, what stays open. Many open with a line grading the parentage; what the grades mean.
Research note · 27 Jul 2026
PROOF CLASS: BOTH PARENTS = DIRECT (reviewed 4 Sep 2026). His 1945 Texas death certificate states the father in field 10 and the mother's maiden name in field 12.
Audited 27 Jul 2026. BOTH PARENTS EVIDENCED. Death certificate, Harris Co., 24 May 1945, file 21415, image 40394_b062273-00318 (Texas, U.S., Death Certificates, 1903-1982 (Ancestry coll. 2272)): field 10 FATHER = 'George W. West'; field 12 MOTHER'S MAIDEN NAME = 'Bessie Alexander'; his own birthplace DODGE CITY, KANSAS. With his father's Kansas birth in 1866 this places the West family in Kansas across two generations, matching the Wilbur-Dennis-West-to-Kansas-Territory account. Cause: heat exhaustion, ruled an ACCIDENT, at the recycling plant at Bammel, related to occupation, aged 41 - which confirms the family account in for-mom-west-carpenter-catchings.md.
