Research notes

Working notes from the research, kept verbatim — what was read, what it proved, what stays open. Many open with a line grading the parentage; what the grades mean.

Research note · 5 Sep 2026
PROOF CLASS: BOTH PARENTS = DIRECT - the Latane Family Bible family register names him "Henry Waring Latane son of John and Mary Temple", read on the manuscript image (K171). AUDITED 5 Sep 2026 - NOTE CREATED, NO NEW RESEARCH. This person carried ProofFather=1 and ProofMother=1 with NO Audited event at all, so the basis for the flags was unreadable from the database. It was not missing: it was registered under a job about his SIBLINGS. THE EVIDENCE - Latane Family Bible, RootsMagic SourceID 339, LVA Bible Records 52218, "Family Record - BIRTHS", READ ON THE MANUSCRIPT IMAGE 12 Aug 2026 (register K171; job record ancestry/f52-f258-register-2026-08-12.md, JOB A). The citation transcript on this person reads in full: "Henry Waring Latane son of John and Mary Temple was born April 6th 1812". The same page states the filiation of three of his siblings by name - [88] Arthur, [87] Lucy, [86] John - and JOB A set [86] and [87] to 1/1 from it; [70] was ALREADY 1/1 and was therefore untouched, which is why no note was written for him. WHY THE READING MEANS SOMETHING - the page carries its own control and counter-control: the left column is the LATANE family ("John son of William and Ann Latane") and the lower right a THIRD family ("William Lewis the son of Henry Waring & Susanna Latane"). "son of John & Mary Temple" is therefore NOT a formula the scribe applied to every entry; it varies by family. GRADE AND ITS LIMIT - a family register read on the manuscript is a record, so DIRECT. But it is ONE INFORMANT (one page, one hand), and narrative-sources.md rule 5 applies to this exact corpus: a transcription is not the record, and this Bible's transcript has already been caught presenting the transcriber's arithmetic as Bible text. The reading above is from the IMAGE. SCOPE - this proves HIS parents. It says nothing about [78] John Temple's own parents; that link stays 0/0 and untouched.
