Thomas Lewis Latané Temple

1906 In 1906 he came upon his newly arrived nephew sitting on the timber dock at Diboll reading the sports page, asked whether that was all he had to do, and found him more duties. The nephew's son said he was sterner with his own family than with other employees.

1930 Writing to his son in McAllen on 31 January 1930, he said the cotton situation had played the mischief with them and that he would like to close out everything when the May contracts were up: "I surely would like to get out, lock, stock and barrel, and stay out for all time."

He was a Christian Scientist. His great-nephew Gresham, interviewed in 1985, said he had very few vices and did not smoke or drink.

His grandchildren called him Burr. He had tried to teach his first grandchild to call him Brother; what came out sounded like Booa, and it was written down as Burr.

He came to live on Long Island six or seven months of the year, at a summer house in Quogue. His grandson wrote in 1977 that if there was a rallying memory point for the third generation of the clan, it was Quogue.
